1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative, but lacked information. He is not very familiar with the Military Service. Information seems fairly reliable.

3. T/O & E OF UNIT:
The 50th Army was composed of the 148th, 149th and 150th Infantry Divisions and 1 Artillery regiment.
The 149th Division was composed of the 445th, 446th and 447th Infantry Regiments and 1 Artillery Battalion.
The 446th Regiment was composed of 3 Infantry battalions and 1 Artillery company.
Each Infantry battalion was composed of 3 Infantry companies and 1 HMG Company.
Each Infantry Company was composed of 3 rifle platoons.
Each rifle platoon was composed of 3 squads.

When the 50th Army arrived at SINUIJU o/a 26 Oct 50, one (1) Korean was assigned to each company as interpreter.
PW’s unit is under the same chain of command now as it was prior to crossing the YALU.
Strength of Unit: Division - 8,000 Army - 30,000
4 x mountain guns (unk size) were observed in SINUIJU o/a 26 Oct 50.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
Only the 148th Div of the 50th Army has been committed to battle in KOREA. The 149th and 150th Division, although in KOREA, had not been committed as of the time of PW’s capture.
The 446th Regt, 149th Division was in an unknown area, constructing individual defense positions; there were no elaborate positions.
O/a 20 Nov 50, PW claimed that he was “released” from duty due to his coughing spells and cold. He lived in a Korean home until captured by US Forces.
PW saw a few troops (unit unk) of the 66th Army, while passing through SINUIJU o/a 26 Oct 50.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted by the CNA, 15 Jun 47 at CHI-CHUNG-HSIEN (麒中縣).
Captured by the CCF 50th Army at CHILIN (吉林) Jul 48.
Taken to HARBIN and entered a PW Camp.
Joined the 50th Army during April 49.
The 50th Army departed HARBIN in April 49 and arrived at SZECHWAN SHENG (四川省) in June 49.
The 50th Army departed SZECHWAN in Dec 49 by boat and arrived at HOPEH SHENG (湖北省) in Jan 50.
The 50th Army departed HOPEH SHENG in Sep 50 and arrived at ANTUNG (安東) in Oct 50.
O/a 25 Oct 50, the entire 50th Army departed ANTUNG by foot and arrived at SINUIJU o/a 25 Oct 50, marching over a bridge.
The entire 50th Army crossed a steel bridge o/a 25 Oct 50 over the YALU.
The 446th Regiment departed SINUIJU and arrived at an unknown place o/a 20 Nov 50.
PW’s unit was in HOPEH SHENG before departing for KOREA.
The 66th Army was seen in SINUIJU o/a 25 Oct 50.
PW’s unit did not participate in the HAINAN Island invasion.

No Soviet advisors were seen in the CCF.

7. ARMOR & ARTILLERY:
4 mountain guns (sizes unk) were observed in SINUIJU, o/a 26 Oct 50.

8. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Five days supply of food was brought from ANTUNG by each Company. When there were exhausted, the companies received food from the Korean civilians by producing written permits, signed by a North Korean Army officer.
No ammo supplies were received by PW’s company after arriving in KOREA.
Ammo was issued in ANTUNG prior to arriving in KOREA (Approx 80 rds small arms per rifleman).

9. MORALE:
Approx a fourth of the troops had high morale. These were all communist die-hards and are known to be in high fighting spirits. The remainder were former CNA troops, and new recruits, who did not favor fighting.

10. GENRAL INFORMATION:
PW did not volunteer for Korean service.
No instructions were given to the PW to appear as volunteer if captured.
No amphibious training was undergone by PW or his unit.
PW knew nothing of the Iron and Steel Brigade.
No known Japanese unit were in the CCF.
No known Militia or Security Units, besides the regular troops, exist in the CCF.
Pay of various grades:
(1) Private - - 100,000 (Manchurian Yuan)
(2) Plat Commander - - 200,000 (Manchurian Yuan)
PW’s unit began moving to MANCHURIA in Sep 50.
No known paratroop training as paratroop units are known to be in the CCF.
Former CNA troops and equipment are being utilized by the CCF.
Troops were lectured on their being liberators and representative of true democracy.
