2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was - very cooperative and was free with his answers.
Information obtained considered fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Personal and Unit History:
PW was inducted on 5 Jul 50 at HAEJU (海州). Receiving 20 days training, he was assigned to the 7th Div, 3rd Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co at HAEJU (海州).
Left HAEJU (海州) by train to SUSAE (水色), walked to CHANANG (天安), rode truck to CHINZU (晉州), walked to KOSONG (固城), walked to approx 4 km away from the town of TONGYUNG (統營) and here he had his first combat experience 16 Aug 50. On this date he was wounded and was taken to KOSONG (固城) stayed here for a couple Of days and sent to SACHONG (泗川). Stayed here until they retreated on 23 Sep 50. They retreated to NAWUN (南原), CHUNJU (全州) and here, hearing rumors that the UN Forces were near, they took to the hills to CHUPUNGYONG (秋風), SONGNISAN (松裡山). From here to the Taebaek Mountain Range to the vicinity. of ICHON (伊川). At ICHON the 8th Ind Regt was organized in late Oct 50. Stayed in the mountains until he was captured while walking on a road leading to YONGCHONG (漣川).

1st Bn, 3rd Co, 1st Plat, 3rd Sqd.
The 8th Ind Regt was composed of 3 Bns and each Bn was composed of 3 Inf Cos. Each Co was composed of 3 Plats and each plat was composed of 3 Sqds.
1st Plat, 3rd Co, 1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt -
Original personnel consisted of 20 EM and 1 officer as of late Oct 50. Present (6 Dec 50) personnel consisted of 16 EM and 1 officer.
3rd Co, 1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt -
Original personnel consisted of 90 EM and 5 officers. Present (6 Dec 50) personnel consisted of 60 EM and 6 officers.
1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt -
Original personnel, consisted of 300. EM and 30 officers. Present (6 Dec 50) personnel consisted of 300 EM and 35 officers.

Equipment: as of Dec 50
1st Plat, 3rd Co, 1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt -
2 M1 Rifle (20 rds per); M1891/30 rifle (8) (50 rds per); 2 Jap rifle (10 rds per); 1 SMG (70 rds per).
3rd Co, 1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt -
3 SMGs (70 rds per); 50 M1891/30 rifle (50 rds per); 5 carbine (50 rds per); M 1 rifle (10) (20 rds per).
1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt -
2 mortars (15 rds per); 1 HMG (300 rds per), 3 LMGs (200 rds per).

Location and Activities of Units:
From late Oct to 6 Dec 50, the 1st Bn, 3rd Co was located in the mountains 4 km N of ICHON and also in the mountain villages nearby.
The missions of this unit was to made roads impassable for vehicles and to sabotage bridges.
The 8th Ind Regt Hq was located 3 km NE of KOMUNRI (古文里) in a mountain village as of 2 Dec 50.
The 1st Bn Hq was located in KOMUNRI (古文里) at the time PW was captured.
At night the 1st Bn He comes to KOMUNRI (古文里) and in the daytime goes in the mountain.

Personalities:
Regimental Co – Col (大佐) KIM, Song (金成), age – 40, of the 8th Ind Regt.
Bn CO, 1st Bn, 8th Ind Regt - Maj (少佐) KANG (FNU) (姜), age – 30.

Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food supply was obtained from villages. Ammo was very scarce, picked up whenever it could be found.

Morale:
Morale of the men was low due to lack of clothing. Furthermore, most of the men want to desert but they were told by higher Hq that if they were caught they would be shot by their captors.

Communication:
3 x Field telephones were used between the Co, Bn and Regt Hqs.
