ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2741　23 December 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD #1 – 0275)　18 December 1950

PW was hesitant in making replies. He was vague in details. Information is considered fairly reliable.

24 Aug 50: Inducted into the NKA at HWANG HAE-DO HUANG TSU GUN (黃海道 黃州郡). PW received no basic training.

10 Sep 50: Arrived in SEOUL and assigned to MG Co, 42nd Bn, 110th Security Guard Regt.

18 Sep 50: 110th Security Guard Regt left for KOCHANG GUN (居昌郡).

25 Sep 50: Arrived at KOCHANG City after traveling at night and through the mountains because of constant air strafing.

26 Sep 50: The 110th Security Guard Regt started its retreat northward through the TAEPAK (太白山) mountain range.

30 Oct 50: PW with 50 other stragglers arrived at ICHON (伊川).

2 Nov 50: PW was assigned to the 3rd Co, 3rd Bn of the 8th Ind Regt which was newly activated o/a this date. Since then the PW has been with the unit in the vic of ICHON up to the time of surrender on 13 Dec 50.

The mission of the PW's unit was to harass the UN MSR by dynamiting the roads between YONCHON (연천) and SIBBYON NI (市邊里). During this period the CO undertook three such operations.

3rd Co, 3rd Bn, 8th Ind Regt, II Corps - Personnel - 4 officers and 75 EM, (original). Personnel - 4 officers and 40 EM. (present) (13 Dec 50).

PW states that the total number of men in the Bn was approx 300. He further stated that during their operation in the vic of ICHON no CCF were seen. The Regimental Hq was located at MAJON RI (마전리). The Bn Hq was located approx 4 km N of CHOKKOL in a small village, (name unk).

PW states that Bn Political Officer told his troops that with the aid of the CCF the NKA was on its way to victory. That each soldier should endeavor to harass the American supply line. Since this orientation, made during the early part of Dec, the troop morale has been considerably boosted. Although they were poorly equipped, they are more determined than ever the PW stated.

Did you surrender? Yes. Why? Living conditions of 8 guerrilla was not what I wanted.

Did you see any UN leaflets or hear loudspeaker broadcasts? No, I heard about the leaflet but didn’t see them. Did they make broadcasts?

Did you hear any talk about the leaflets? Yes, just that it was dropped. I heard it from one of my friends. He made no comment as to its content.

Ammo and equipment was lacking. The PW states that food was obtained from local sources. That they received no pay at all. The unit didn’t have any winter clothing
