PW was cooperative and spoke freely, but not too intelligently. Distances were vague. Information not considered reliable.

3. CHRONOLOGY
18 Jun 16: Born at HAMGYONG PUKTO, KYONGWON-GUN, ANNONG-MYON, SINGAE-RI KOREA. (咸鏡北道慶源郡安農面新開里)
Mar 33: HUNCHUN-CHIEH (珲春市) MANCHURIA. Quit school after completing the 3rd year of middle school.
Mar 33 - Jul 33: HUNCHUN-CHIEH (珲春市) MANCHURIA. Unemployed.
Jul 33 - Apr 42: Employed at the HUNCHUN-CHIEH police station as a squad leader in the forest police station.
May 42 - Jul 42: Travelled to CHILIN (吉林), MUKDEN (奉天), HARBIN (哈爾濱) and MUTANCHIANG(牡丹江), in order to recuperate from illness.
Jul 42 - Mar 43: Stayed at HUCHUN-HSIEN, TEHWEI-TSUN, TAHUANGKOU-TUN (珲春縣德惠村大業溝屯) MANCHURIA and engaged in farming.
Apr 43 - Aug 45: MUTANCHIANG-SHENG, NINGAN-HSIEN, LANKANG-TSUN, LANKANG-TUN (牡丹江省寧安縣蘭村蘭崗屯) MANCHURIA. PW was the village president.
Sep 45 - 12 Mar 47: MUTANCHIANG-SHIH, HSICHANGAN-CHIEH (牡丹江市西長安街) MANCHURIA. Operated his own trucking business (one truck).
20 Mar 47 - 23 Jan 48: Returned to his place of birth and engaged in farming
23 Jan 48 - 6 Aug 50: HAMYON (下面) KOREA. Employed as a coal handler in the mine.
9 Aug 50: NANAM (羅南) KOREA. Volunteered for the NANAM Unit (羅南部隊). Did not receive training due to constant air raids.
14 Sep 50: SEOUL (서울) KOREA, Received uniform.
21 Sep 50: KOCHANG (居昌) KOREA. Assigned to the 582nd Unit as a rifleman.
3 Oct 50: TAEJON (大田) KOREA. Captured by UN Forces.

4. ARMED FORCES:
OFFICERS CANDIDATE SCHOOL  MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江) MANCHURIA
Pvt      D/O 1946 - 12 Mar 47
Location:
Approx 1.5 km ESE of the RR station. PW believed that the school was started in 1946 but the month was unknown. During the period from 1946 to 12 Mar 47, PW frequently observed the Officers Candidate School while enroute to and from the RR station.

Building:
It was two (2) story brick building. The width was 15 m but the length was not known. The SW main entrance was enclosed by a barbed wire fence and was guarded.

Students:
The total number of students was unknown. PW heard from a friend that the soldiers, 8th Route Army Personnel, were selected from various units within MANCHURIA besides the units in MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江).

ARTILLERY TRNG SCHOOL  MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江) MANCHURIA

Location:
Approx 1 km NE of the RR station.

Observation:
Until 12 Mar 47, PW on two (2) occasions passed near by the artillery trng school.

Building:
It was a two (2) story brick building. The shape of the building was as follows but the dimensions were unknown.


2nd ARTILLERY REGT  MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江) MANCHURIA

Location:
Approx 3.3 km NNE of the RR station.

Observation:
During the above mentioned period, PW, while swimming, observed the 2nd Artillery Regt five times.

Weapons:
PW, on one occasion, observed three horse drawn guns and many light machine guns in the vicinity of the MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江) RR station. Each gun had a barrel 2 m long and a bore diameter of 6 inches.
PW observed about 1,000 soldiers of the 2nd Artillery Regt.

MILITARY HEADQUARTERS  MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江) MANCHURIA

Name:
Known to the people as MUTANCHIANG (牡丹江) Headquarters and to the Military Personnel as the MUTANCHIANG-SHENG (牡丹江一省) 8th Route Army Headquarters.

Location:
Approx 1 km SE of the RR station.

Observation;
PW, on one occasion, delivered military uniforms to the 8th Route Army Headquarters.

Area:
Approx 170 m x 150 m, enclosed by a barbed wire fence. Each of the three (3) entrances was guarded by one (1) sentinel.

Building:
The headquarters building was a two (2) story brick building with a flat concrete roof. It measured about 80 m x 18 m x 15 m high. There were three (3) one (1) story brick barracks. The size and the number of persons billetted was unknown.

Age: 40
Nationality: Chinese
Position: Military Police Chief of the 2nd Artillery Regt. (Had more authority than the regimental commander.)
Build: Small
Height: 5' 4"
Characteristics: Hunchback, slender, pointed jaw and high cheek bones.
Home Town: YENAN (延安) CHINA.
