FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - Special Report #0223)　27 November 1950

PW seemed cooperative. Source of information was limited. Given figures appear doubtful. Acquired information may be considered reliable.

Oct 40: Moved to WUCHANG-HSIEN, TIPA-CHU (五常縣第八区) and worked as a farmer.

13 Nov 47: Enlisted in the 3rd Ind Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co at HARBIN (哈爾濱), MANCHURIA.

9 Jul 48: Departed HARBIN for CHANGCHUN (長春). 3rd Ind Regt was redesignated the 11th Ind Div, 2nd Regt.

7 Jul 49: All Korean troops of the 11th Ind Div left CHANGCHUN, MANCHURIA for NANAM, KOREA.

11 Jul 49: Arrived NANAM where he was assigned to the 5th Div, 11th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co.

21 Jul 49: Received 1 month's infantry training at NANAM.

27 Aug 49: Received another month's infantry training at P'YONGYANG (平壤). Assigned to the 1st Div, 2nd Regt, Guard Plat.

30 Sep 49: Promoted to Sgt and became a squad leader.

20 Apr 50: Hospitalized due to a broken spine received while training.

27 Jun 50: Discharged from hospital.

30 Jun 50: Arrived in SEOUL (서울).

31 Jun 50: Departed SEOUL for CHANGHOWON via ICHON (伊川).

13 Jul 50: Arrived CHUNGJU (忠州) and promoted to Jr Lt.

2 Aug 50: Before arriving GUNWI, made stops at NANCHANG (南昌) and CHOMCHON (占村).

3 Sep 50: Deserted his unit and fled to ANGOE(安溪).

25 Sep 50: Surrendered to S Korean police at ANGOE(安溪).

No detailed information on organization or subordinate units.

Located in HARBIN. Although not referred to as such, it was actually the MP Hq for the city with jurisdiction over crimes committed against, or by, members of the CCF. Members of the unit wore regular uniforms with brassard on which was written JEFA UNIT. Five men patrols of the unit armed with rifles roved in the city.

Located in HARBIN. PW was assigned to the Guard Co of the Regt'1 Hq. The Regt, which consisted only of Koreans, was organized after the end of WW II with a total strength of about l,500. There were 500 in the Hq and the balance were assigned to 3 Bns which were also located within the city. Regt was under the SUNGCHIANG Army District Hq. In Jul 48 the Regt was moved to CHANGCHUNG and redesignated the 2nd Regt of the 11th Ind Div, (See below, 11th Ind Div)

In Jul 48, the 3rd Ind Regt was redesignated the 11th Ind Div, 2nd Regt at CHANGCHUN. This 3rd Ind Regt was redesignated as the 2nd Regt in the 11th Ind Div. The 11th Ind Div was directly attached to the 4th Field Army. A month later, in Aug 48, the unit was again redesignated. It was known as the 164th Div.

In Jul 49, the Korean troops of this 164th Div were sent to NANAM(羅南), KOREA. Approx 10,000 Korean troops arrived here from CHANGCHUN and all of them were assigned to the 5th Div.

All commanders, regt and below, were Koreans. Political officers were Chinese.

The training ground, which was the site of a former Japanese Military Airfield, was located 2 km South of the main RR station.

It was an open area, size unknown. This was being used as the training grounds for the 3rd Ind Regt. The concrete runway, running from North to South, still was intact. Dimensions of runway - unk. No bldgs or other facilities were in the area.

Remarks: Believed that subject moved to N KOREA to take up a position in the N Korean Government. Details - unknown.

PW believed that all of these personalities who came to KOREA had their names changed.

NOTE: The battalions were stationed at three different parts of the town.
