2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and intelligent. Reliability, good.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
Date of entry into MANCHURIA unknown.
Mar 45: Inducted into the Japanese Anny, NANKING (南京) Army 9461 Unit at TIENTSIN (天津) CHINA and assigned to an armament factory in NANKING.
25 Aug 45: Released from Japanese Army.
15 Sep 45: Forced into the CCF Army at CHINCHOU (鎭州) MANCHURIA. Assigned to the Volunteer Army (義勇隊) (approx 300 men of which 200 were volunteers and 100 men were forced in).
20 Sep 45 - 15 Oct 45: Received basic training at SINUIJU (新義州) KOREA.
Oct 45 - Jun 46: Went to MUKDEN (奉天) to fight bandits.
Jul 46: Arrived in FUSUNG (撫松) CHINA.
Jul 46 - Mar 47: Received combat training for combat against Chinese Nationalist Forces.
Apr 47: Assigned to the Independent 4th Div and departed FUSUNG (撫松) CHINA for MUKDEN, MANCHURIA.
Nov 48: Arrived in MUKDEN.
Nov 48: Independent 4th Div redesignated the 166th Div. PW was assigned as a platoon leader of the 166th Div, 1st Regt, 2nd Bn, 4th Co of the 2nd plat.
Nov 48 - Jul 49: Unit assigned to guard the TIEHHSI (鉄西) district in MUKDEN, MANCHURIA.
Jul 49: Departed for SINUIJU (新義州) KOREA.
Jul 49 - Mar 50: Assigned as a squad leader in lhe Training Unit in SINUIJU (新義州) KOREA.
Mar 50: 166th Div redesignated the 6th Div.
Mar 50: Entire 6th Div and training unit moved to SARIWON (沙里院).
Apr 50: Arrived in SARIWON (沙里院) KOREA.
Apr 50 - Aug 50: Assigned as a supply officer at the training unit.

4. FORMER CCF UNIT
166th Div of the CCF
a. Company - 3 rifle platoons and one heavy weapons platoon of 100 men and 9 officers each. The 3 rifle platoons were armed with 6 light machine guns, 2 knee mortars and 14 automatic rifles. The heavy weapons platoon was armed with 3 x 60mm guns, 3 field guns and 3 heavy machine guns.
b. Battalion - Three rifle and one heavy weapons company of 400 men and 41 officers each. Each rifle company was armed with 18 light machine guns, 6 knee mortars and rifles, The heavy weapons company was armed with 3 x 60mm guns, 3 field guns, 4 heavy machine guns and 3 light machine guns. One communications platoon was attached.
c. Regiment - 4 Battalions, of which three were Rifle Bns, and one an Artillery Bn, one Communications Co and one Medical Co and one Supply Co.
d. Division - 4 Regiments, of which 3 were Rifle Regiments and one an Artillery Regt. There was also a Communications Unit, a Medical Unit and a Supply Unit.
e. Army (Corps) and Army Group - Field Army’s organization and unit designations unknown.

SOVIET ADVISORS
PW observed that when. he received training in SINUIJU (新義州) KOREA there was one 1 Russian instructor to each platoon. PW observed that all Russian instructors were officers.

SOVIET EQUIPMENT
Most of the small arms and mortars were of Russian make.

CAPTURED NATIONALIST TROOPS
Large numbers of captured Nationalist troops in MUKDEN (奉天) Area.

RATIONS AND CLOTHING
In MANCHURIA ration was white rice 3 times a week and whole rice the rest of the week, pork or beef and bean oil twice a day and Chinese cake once a week. The food was very good.
Clothing issue was 2 sets of summer clothing and one set of winter clothing, 8 pairs of canvas shoes in the summer and 2 pairs of leather boots in the winter.

0730 to 1130 and 1400 to 1600 - training
1800 to 1900 - physical training
1900 to 2000 - schedule for next day
