2. ASSESSMENT:
PW had slight wound on the right knee. PW was a farmer prior to entering the service. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW conscripted into the CCF on 20 Jun 48 at CHUOCHOU-HSIEN (溕周縣). PW received three (3) months of infantry training and upon completion of training was assigned to the TULI, SHIHLU, 10th Regt (都立 柿婁 十団). 4 Sep 48, the unit departed CHUOCHOU-HSIEN on foot and passed thru TINGHSING (屯興), KACPETIEN (高北店), SUNGLINTIEN (松林店), CHUOCHOU (溕周) and arrived at LAISHUI (廖水) on 21 Oct 48. The unit then engaged the Nationalist Army for five (5) days. On or about 2 Nov 48, the unit departed LAISHUI and marched to PANSHENGTSUN (般城村) arriving on 3 Nov 48. The unit remained at this location for three (3) months, receiving mountain climbing, night fighting tactics, and advanced combat training. On or about 15 Feb 49, the unit departed PANSHENGTSUN and marched to CHUOLOU-HSIEN (溕周縣) arriving 18 Feb 49. The unit was then engaged in battle with the Nationalist Army for two (2) months. On Apr 49, tile TULI, SHIHLU, 10th Regt was redesignated the 66th Army. The entire 66th Army departed CHUOLOU-HSIEN on 8 Apr 49 arriving at TIENTSIN (天津) on 13 Apr 49. The entire 66th Army remained at this location until 25 Oct 50, engaging in agricultural work. The entire 66th Army then departed TIENTSIN by train and arrived at ANTUNG 29 Oct 50. 2 Nov 50, the 197th Div crossed the YALU River into Korea, followed by the 196th Div on 3 Nov and the 198th Div on 5 Nov 50. PW stated that he observed the 196th and 197th Div crossing the YALU River. On the morning of 6 Nov 50, the 198th Div arrived at PAENGMA (白馬) (XE3436). On 7 Nov 50, the 198th Div departed PAENGMA and marched to CHONGNYONG DONG (YE2343) arriving on 9 Nov 50. On 9 Nov 50, PW’s Co was sent out on a reconnaissance mission. On 23 Nov 50, while returning from his mission, PW was captured by the 11th ROK Regt. The two other CCF soldiers who were with PW at that time were killed.

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
The 66th Army is composed of the 196th, 197th, and 198th Divs. The 198th Div is composed of the 592nd, 593rd, and 594th Regts and one Arty Regt. The 593rd Regt is composed of 3 Inf Bns, HW Co, and Sig Sqd. The 3rd Bn is composed of 3 Rifle Cos, and HW Co. Each Co is composed of 3 Rifle Plats.

Upon cross examination PW stated that the strength given on 66th Army, 198th Div, and 593rd Regt is hearsay. The strength of 3rd Bn, 7th Co, and 3rd Plat is from actual observation.

c. Equipment.
The Arty Regt has howitzers (No. & size u/k). The HW Co was equipped with 4 mortars (approx 82m/m) and 6 60m/m mortars. The above weapons are being used in Korea and were brought over from China by the unit.

d. Unit Assignment and Intention.
PW stated that he was told by his Co Comdr at ANTUNG that they were to aid the NKA because the U.S. Forces will eventually invade Manchuria.

e. Disposition.
196th, 197th, and 198th Divs comprising the 66th Army were deployed around CHONGNYONG-DONG (YE2343). Z/R of the 66th Army covered the area 12 km east to west and 8 km north to south of CHONGNYONG-DONG, with CHONGNYONG-DONG being the center of Z/R.
On 23 Nov 50, the 66th Army CP was located approx 4 km S of CHON GNYONG-DONG.

f. Communications.
No mechanical means of communications were utilized by PW's unit.

g. Personalities.
LIU, Feng-yun (慮鳳崙) Rank u/k - Bn Comdr
CHANG, Ching (張眞) Rank u/k - Co Comdr

h. Defensive Works and Fortifications.
Approx 6 km N of CHONGNYONG-DONG (YE2343) in vic of a gold mine, elements of the 196th, 197th and the 198th Divs were putting up a defensive line approx 12 km in length. Long trenches, fox-holes, and pill boxes were dug within this 12 km area. These positions were well camouflaged with pine boughs.

i. Morale and Propaganda.
Majority of the men's morale low due to lack of food and because of the cold.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies.
Food and ammo supplies were brought from the rear by trucks. (location of dumps u/k). At the minimum one truck a day comes in with food and ammo. Ammo was plentiful but food was scarce.
