FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0125) 24 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: CHOU Ta Chuan (Chinese)
AGE: 19

TIME OF CAPTURE: 231000 Nov 50.
INTERROGATION: CMA


2. ASSESSMENT:
PW suffering from wounds in the left ankle and thigh. PW very cooperative and of average intelligence. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW conscripted into the CCF at CHENGYANG HSIEN Dec 49. Immediately assigned to 120th Div, Rcn Co, and departed CHENGYANG for KWANGSHI latter part of Dec 49. At KWANGSHI 120th Div was engaged in mopping up remnants of the Chinese Nationalist Army, During this period 118th and 119th Divs were engaged in amphibious training at unknown location for approx 3 months. Upon completion of amphibious training 118th and 119th Divs departed for HAINAN Island and fought the Chinese Nationalist troops for approx 15 days. In latter part of May 50, 118th, 119th and 120th Divs regrouped at NEIJOBANDO. Departed for KWANGJU on foot arriving 20 days later. At this location the 40th Army rested for 4 days. Departed KWANGJU and arrived ANTUNG early part of Jul 50, via HUNAN by train, Received field training at ANTUNG prior to crossing into KOREA 19 Oct 50. During PW’s stay in ANTUNG no other CCF units were observed. After crossing into KOREA, the 40th Army marched for approx 5 nights. On the fifth night 120th Div encountered UN troops. Casualties unknown. Damage to materiel and weapons unknown. PW stated his unit (Rcn Co) encountered UN troops on several occasions. Dates and locations unknown. No contact with UN Forces since 7 or 8 Nov 50 to time of capture.

b. PW’s Unit or Group:
PW stated that 40th Army is composed of 118th, 119th arid 120th Divs. Approx strength of 40th Army 50,000, Strength of 120th Div approx 13,000, 120th Div composed of 358th, 359th and 360th Regts. Each Regt composed of 3,500 men, PW heard in ANTUNG that a tank unit was attached to 40th Army. Rcn Co composed of approx 130 men including 4 officers, 3 platoons in Rcn Co, 3 squads to each platoon, Rcn Co equipped with 3 x 50mm mortars, 9 LMG’s, 20 Grease Guns (M-3) and Japanese type rifles. 11 WIA and 7 KIA in Rcn Co. PW stated that 120th Div CP located 1 mile S of ONJONG (YE4843) on 20 Nov 50.

c. Other Units:
Crossing of other CCF units other than the 40th Army unknown to PW. PW stated that 119th Div located vic YONGBYON 20 Nov 50. 360th Regt located vie UNSAN (YE3229), 118th Div location unknown,

d. Supply & Ammo:
Supply of food and ammo sufficient. PW believes that food and ammo being supplied from across the border.

4. GENERAL:
Approx 4 days prior to PW's capture his Company Commander stated that 3 Armies (CCF) had crossed the YALU River, and when (date unk) 2 other Armies (CCF cross, the plan is to start an offensive within 3 weeks. Until then, the strategy is to observe and study the tactics of the UN Army.
