1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was working in a tailor shop at KILIN (吉林) prior to entering the Chinese Nationalist Army. PW was cooperative but of below average intelligence. Due to limited education, PW was unobservant and information was limited. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean. interpreter whp has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW volunteered into the Chinese Nationalist Army at HONANCHIEH (湖南街) in May 1947 anti received 1 1/2 months of basic training at KILIN (吉林). Upon completion of training, PW was sent to HONAN (河南) and remained there for approx 3 months. During this time, PW received advanced combat training. O/a 23 Oct 47, PW was captured by the CCF at KAIFENG (開封) and was immediately integrated into the 38th Army, 112th Div, 334th Regt. The 334th Regt arrived at JUNAN-HSIEN (注南縣), o/a 1 Nov 47, and remained there for approx 6 months. In May 48, the 38th Army moved to SHASHIH (沙市) and remained there until 14 Apr 50. On 14 Apr 50, the 38th Army departed SHASHIH and arrived at TIEHLING (鉄嶺) on 16 Apr 50. At this location, the 38th Army received 16 days of firing practice. On 2 May 50, the 38th Army marched to LIN-CHIANG (臨江), via TUNGHUA (通化), arriving on 5 Jun 50. At this location, the 38th Army received 5 months training of mountain climbing and night fighting tactics. On 6 Nov 50, the 38th Army departed LIN-CHIANG (臨江) and crossed the border. From there, the 112th Div marched to vic of HUICHON (BV6849) and was engaged in battle with unk elements of the UN forces. PW1s unit fought for 3 days and then started to retreat towards HUICHON. While retreating PW deserted his unit and surrendered in vie of PUNG-MYON on 21 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and Strength:
The 38th Army consisted of the 112th, 113th, & 115th Divs. The 112th Div consisted of the 334th, 335th, & 336th Regts, and 1 HW Co. The 334th Regt consisted of 3 Inf Bns and Sig Plat. Each Inf Bn consisted of 3 Rifle Cos. Strength of the 38th Army unk to PW.

c. Equipment:
When crossing the border, the Heavy Weapons Co (assigned to the 112th Div) had 3X81 mm mortars, 12 howitzers (U.S. make) and 3 other arty pieces (size unk).
Each Rifle Co was equipped with 9 LMG's, 1 HMG, 3X50 mm mortars, and 27 U.S. SMG’s. EM had Japanese type rifles.

d. Personalities:
LI, Chung-tung (李長凍) Col Regt’l Comdr, 344th Regt

Morale:
50% of the troops in PW's unit are former Chinese Nationalist soldiers and the morale among them is very low. The remaining 50% are communists and their morale is extremely high.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo:
Food and ammo supplies were adequate. Food and ammo were brought in by trucks and ox carts every two days. (Source and route unk to PW).

b. Foreign Advisors:
On or about 10 Nov 50, PW observed approx 140 Russian soldiers (rank unk) with the 112th Div at HUICHON.

5. REMARKS:
PW stated that the 38th Army is actually composed of the 112th Div, 113th Div and the 114th Div. However, the 114th Div was sent to CHINGTAO (靑鳥) 2 Feb 50 to perform security missions and the 115th Div is temporarily replacing it.
