2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. After entering the Nationalist Army, PW claims that he attended a US instructed Signal School presumably in INDIA from 1941 to 1945. PW had 3 "Safe Conduct Passes" in possession. PW spoke freely but was unable to Give coherent answers. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. PW interrogated by 1st Cav Div 1 PW Team 20 Nov 50.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
PW volunteered for the Chinese Nationalist Army on 16 Jan 1937 at CHENGCHIA-HSIANG (鄭家縣) and received 3 months of basic training. PW participated in the campaign against the Japanese Army at SHANGHAI. In Aug 47, PW was captured by the Chinese Communist Army and escaped 3 days later then went to MUKDEN to join the Nationalist Army. Aug 48, FW was wounded and recaptured by the Communist Army at CHANGCHUN (長春). After remaining with the CCF for approx 1½ months, PW was released and told to go home. Jun 49, PW again volunteered for the Nationalist Army at HUNAN-SHIENG (湖南省) and at that he was commissioned a 1st Lt. Aug 49, PW was again captured by the CCF and was a forced laborer until Dec 49. Jan 50, PW was assigned to the 38th Army, 113th Div, 337th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co at KWANGSI, KWEILIN (廣西 桂林) Jan 50, the 337th Regt moved to HOLAN (河南) and stayed there until May 50. In May 50, the 337th Regt entrained for ANTUNG. At this time PW heard from his Co Comdr that the entire 38th Army was in ANTUNG. 15 days later, the entire 38th Army moved to an unk location and after remaining there for 15 days the 113th Div entrained for KAIYUAN (開原) via MUKDEN. Upon reaching KAIYUAN, PW heard that the ether units of the 38th Army were in MUKDEN. The ll3th Div trained for approx 2 months at KAIYUAN and departed on 15 Oct 50 for SZUPING (四平). From SZUPING PW’s unit crossed the YALU River at unk location o/a 28 Oct 50. At this time, PW heard that another Div (designation unk) of the 38th Army crossed the YALU River. After marching for 3 nights, PW's unit arrived at an unk location and was joined by another Div (designation unk) of the 38th Army. From this location, PW's unit moved in a SE direction for approx 18 clays (stopping at unk locations) and arrived at an unk location where it was engaged in battle. After suffering heavy casualties the unit moved to KAECH’ON (name obtained from another soldier). On the way to KAECH’ON PW deserted his unit and hid in the mountains.

b. Unit Organization and Strength
The 113th Div was composed of 3 Regts (designation unk) with 3 Bns in each Regt. Each Bn was composed of 3 Rifle Cos, MG Co, & Mortar Plat.

c. Equipment
HG Co had 4 HMGs (3 Jap and 1 US type) and rifles. PW also observed 2 Bazooka type weapons in the MG Co. The Mortar Plat had 3 82mm mortars and rifles. The Rifle Cos had 9 LMGs (1 US and 8 Russian type) each and rifles. PW stated that approx 10 men in each Co were issued 6 hand grenades in place of rifles.

d. Unit Assignment and Intentions
While his unit was in MANCHURIA he heard from his Co Comdr that the Americans were aiding SOUTH KOREA so the North Korean People's Army was losing the war and that CHINA must aid NORTH KOREA because the Americans were also going to invade MANCHURIA.

e. Knowledge of other Units
Approx 6 days ago, PW heard that the 48th CCF Army was in KOREA. PW also heard that the 103rd Army was in MUKDEN and the 100th Army in PEIPING. PW also heard that the 100th Army was a guerilla unit composed of experienced soldiers from MANCHURIA, HOPEI, HUNAN, and SHANTUNG (山東) Provinces. On or about 29 Oct 50, PW observed approx 4,000 NK soldiers heading north and heard that they were going to MUKDEN. Approx 80% of the troops observed were unarmed.

f. Armor and Artillery
PW observed 4 arty pieces (size unk) in his Regt before he deserted. PW stated that the 38th Army brought to KOREA 12 arty pieces (size unk) of which 8 were destroyed in combat. No tanks were observed.

g. Communications
PW stated that the 38th Army had a large signal van, 1 horse-drawn signal set, and several small telegraph sets. Each Bn had a small telegraph set and unk number of field telephones.

h. Personalities
CHANG, Jen-fu (張仁福), Capt, CO 7th Co, 3rd Bn, 337th Regt.

i. Food and Ammo Supplies
PW's unit lived off the land. Ammunition supply was very low. Ammunition was brought by trucks from an arsenal in MUKDEN (route unk).

j. Replacements
PW was told that replacements would arrive but did not observe any.

k. Foreign Advisors
PW heard from his Co Comdr that there were 5 Russian advisors attached to each Co; 10 to each Bn; 30 to each Regt; 50 to each Div; and approx 100 to each Army. PW observed only 2 to 5 Russians since crossing the border.

l. Information on Hydroelectric Plants
FW heard from his Plat Leader that all the hydroelectric plants were to be dismantled with the aid of Russian advisors and sent to RUSSIA. Immovable parts were to be destroyed.
