2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation, was cooperative but of below average intelligence. PW had difficulty in remembering dates. PW was a farmer prior to volunteering for the Nationalist Army, interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW volunteered into the Nationalist Army 23 Jan 41 at HSIAN SHENG and received basic training from Jan 41 to Mar 41, at which time he was promoted to a squad leader (one black stripe). Dec 49, PW was captured by the CCF and was immediately inducted into CCF 39th Army, 117th Div, 318th Regt at KWANGSI. PW never fought against the Nationalist troops. The unit immediately left for HOLAN, approx 15 days march, and was there for approx 2 months. Then proceeded to HOLAN (河萰), approx 20 days march, and stayed for approx 3 months. Then marched for approx 60 days to ANTUNG, arriving o/a 25 Sept 50. While at HOLAN, received training in mountain climbing. At HOLAN (河萰), constructed dam, and at ANTUNG, received approx 20 days of Inf training. O/a 20 Oct 50, the 39th Army crossed the YALU River and marched for 6 days to an unknown location. Here PW's unit dug air raid shelters and conducted training. PW deserted 12 Nov 50 and was captured 161000 Nov 50.

c. Equipment
The Co was equipped with 9 LMGs, 3 light mortars, 18 submachine guns, and rifles. In the Bn there were 4 HMGs. The Regt had 4 horse-drawn arty pieces (caliber unk).

d. Knowledge of Other Units
Either the 38th or the 40th Army crossed the YALU River ahead of the 39th Army o/a 20 Oct 50. Their present whereabouts unknown.

e. Morale and Propaganda
Morale is low and 9 out of every 10 want to surrender. Prior to deserting his unit, PW picked up and read a surrender leaflet. From then on, PW was always looking for an opportunity to desert his unit. Majority of the troops are former Nationalist soldiers.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies
There were 76 rounds of ammo per rifle, 4 hand grenades per man, 2,500 rounds per LMG, 2,500 rounds per HMG, and 30 rounds per mortar. PW stated that they received sufficient food.

b. Air Force and Navy
PW observed 4-5 fighter planes (type unk) flying over the city of ANTUNG. Also observed an airfield under construction 2 km N of ANTUNG.

5. MISSION OF PRESENT UNIT:
PW was told by his Co Comdr (name unk) that they were to prevent the US forces from invading MANCHURIA.
