1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a farmer prior to induction into the Chinese Nationalist Army. PW did not care to fight in KOREA. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology
PW was inducted into the Nationalist Anny at SZECHWAN 9 years ago and was assigned to the 41st Army, 183rd Div. PW was captured by CCF 39th Army, 117th Div at KWANGSI, MINGSAN-HSIEN 24 Dec 49, and was sent to HONAN, KAIFENG HSIEN during March 500 PW was engaged in construction of irrigation ditches at KAIFENG HSIEN for 2 months, where he also received 1 month indoctrination on communism. The entire 39th Army arrived at ANTUNG Jul 50 and received training (firing, mountain fighting, and night combat). After resting for 20 days at ANTUNG, the entire 39th Army crossed the YAW River and entered KOREA. 39th Anny arrived at UNSAN (YE3928) o/a 7 Nov 50, where they engaged the UN Forces for three days. 117th Div, 39th Army arrived at YONGSAN (YE3012) o/a 10 Nov 50. PW and one other deserted their unit on 152400 Nov 50 and was captured in vic of WONNAM-DONG on 161600 Nov 50.

b, Unit Organization and Strength
39th Army composed of the 114th, 115th, 116th, and 117th Divs.
l17th Div composed of the 15th, 16th, and 18th Regts and an Arty Bn.
18th Regt composed of 3 Bns.
The 2nd Bn was composed of the 5th, 6th, 7th Rifle Cos and the 8th Heavy Weapons Co.

117th Div suffered 400 KIA, 200 WIA, and 500 MIA during engagement with the UN Forces near UNSAN o/a 7 Nov 50. 200 Chinese replacements were assigned to the 117th Div o/a 12 Nov 50.

c. Equipment
Rifle Co had 9 LMG's (US make), 10 carbines (US make) and unknown number of rifles. Heavy Weapons Co was equipped with 6 HMG’s (US make) and 4 x 81mm mortars (US make). Arty Bn had 4 horse-drawn arty pieces (caliber unk), 4 truck-drawn arty pieces (caliber unk), 4 mortars (size unk), and 4 mountain guns (caliber unk).
PW observed 10 tanks (believed to be light), 30 trucks, and 2 jeeps with the 39th Army. All above-mentioned weapons entered KOREA with the 39th Army.

d, Dispositions
117th and 115th Divs of the 39th Army were located near YONGSAN (YE3012) as of 152400 Nov 50. Troops were digging foxholes when last observed.
PW heard from his Co Comdr 11 Nov 50 that the 116th Div was located at UNSAN (YE3928) and that the 114th Div at TAECH'ON (YE1322).

e. Intentions
PW heard that his unit was to attack.

f. Armor and Artillery
10 tanks of the 39th Army were last observed by PW, 20 km E of SINUIJU (XE1939) o/a 4 Nov 50.

g. Morale and Propaganda
The morale of the former Nationalist troops of the 117th Div was very low and they did not have any desire to fight. Approx 60% of the troops in the 117th Div are former Nationalist soldiers.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies
Each man of the 117th Div carried 15 days ration when they entered KOREA.
