ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2626　8 November 1950

FIELD REPORT (528 - LDI - 0122)　17 November 1950

PW appeared to be suffering from high temperature due to a self inflicted wound on left forearm. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence, however, due to PW's physical condition information was very limited. Recommended for further interrogation.

PW was inducted into the NKA 20 Jul 50 and assigned to the 4th Regt, 2nd Bn located at SARIWON (YC4065). 24 Oct 50, the 4th Regt was assigned to the 48th Div at SINUIJU (XE2040). After the Regt was committed to the front lines, remnants of the 2nd Bn, 4th Regt was assigned to the 8th Regt, 17th Div located in vie PAKCHON (YE2200) on 9 Nov 50. On same day, PW’s unit was attacked and PW deserted his unit. The following day, in order to avoid questioning by NK troops, PW shot himself in his left forearm. PW then joined the Security Police and surrendered 15 Nov 50.

8th Regt, 17th Div consisted of 3 Bns and Heavy Weapons Co. 2nd Bn consisted of 3 Rifle Cos, Mortar Co, HMG Co, 45mm Gun Plat, AT Rifle Plat, Med Plat and Sup Plat, Strength of each Rifle Co was approx 120 men. Strength of the Mortar (82mm) Co, approx 47; Heavy Weapons Co, approx 50; HMG Co, approx 50; 45mm Gun Plat, approx 15.

Heavy Weapons Co had 6x120mm mortars. Mortar Co had 2x82mm mortars. HMG Co had approx 5xHMG’s. 45mm Gun Plat had 2x45mm guns. AT Rifle Plat had approx 5xAT rifles. Personnel of the Rifle Cos were armed with Russian rifles.
