ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2625　8 November 1950

FIELD REPORT (528 LDI - 0121)　17 November 1950

PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a farmer in UIJU-GUN, KWANGPYONG-MYON prior to being inducted into the NKA. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence, however, due to PW's short length of service, information was very limited. Not recommended for further interrogation

PW was inducted into the NKA 26 Oct 50 and assigned to the 71st Div, 3rd Regt, 1st Bn, 45mm AT Plat at UIJU (XE3050). Deserted 29 Oct 50. On his way home, PW was captured 15 Nov 50.

The 71st Div consisted of the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Regts. The 1st Bn consisted of 3 Cos. 45mm AT plat was assigned to each Bn. Strength uk due to PW’s short length of service. Personnel of the 71st Div were conscripts from the P’YONGAN NAMDO and P’YONGAN PUKTO Areas.

PW stated that there were no weapons in the entire 71st Div, but was told by his Bn Comdr that Russia is going to supply them with weapons.

The 71st Div Hq was located at UIJU (XE3050) when PW deserted on 29 Oct 50.

PW observed approx 10,000 CCF troops and 10 trucks loaded with supplies heading south from TAECHON (YE1322) on the night of 1 Nov 50. No arty or tanks were observed. The troops were armed with SMGs and rifles. PW observed approx 200 NK troops digging trenches and fox holes on a hill approx 2 miles N of YONGBYON (YE4011) during the day light hours 7 Nov 50. PW observed another group of approx 3,000 CCF troops at TAECH'ON-GUN, TONG-MYON (YE2022) digging trenches and laying telephone lines 6 Nov 50. The men were armed with SMGs and rifles.
