1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition at time or interrogation. PW was a farmer prior to being inducted into the NKA. PW deserted o/a 26 Oct 50 and surrendered 14 Nov 50, PW was of average intelligence and information obtained is considered reliable. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW inducted into the NKA 4 May 49 at P’YONGYANG and was immediately assigned to the 1st Div, 112th Ind HMG Unit as a clerk. On 7 May 49, the 1st Div departed P'YONGYANG by truck and arrived at SARIWON (YC4069) on 8 May 49. 1st Div remained in SARIWON until Sop 49 recruiting personnel. In late Sep 49, the 1st Div departed SARIWON and marched to NAMCHON (BT7347) arriving in the early part of Oct 49. The 1st Div remained in NAMCH’ON until 23 Jun 50 receiving advanced combat training, On 24 Jun 50, the unit marched from NAMCH’ON and arrived at the 38° parallel border on 25 Jun 50. On 25 Jun 50, the unit attacked unk elements of the SK Army and advanced to SEOUL, CHUNGJU (DR0592), MUNGYONG (DR2065), and KUNWI (DR6109). O/a 26 Sep 50, the unit withdrew from KUNWI by foot and trucks and arrived at INJE (DT3413) o/a 8 Oct 50. Tho 1st Div withdrew to KOKSAN (BT9795) by truck and arrived on 13 Oct 50. On 13 Oct 50, the unit started to withdraw via TOKCHON (BV6904), KUJANG DONG (BV4511), MYOHYANGSAN (BV6527), HUICHON (BV6849), CHONCHON MYON (BA8409) and arrived at KANGGYE (BA9838). on 25 Oct 50. On 25 Oct 50, the 1st Div departed KANGGYE by trucks and foot to MAMPO (BA7359). PW deserted his unit while enroute to MAMPO and surrendered to unk elements of the UN Forces on 14 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and Strength:
The 1st Div consisted of 3 Inf Regts, Engr Bn, Tank Bn, Armored Bn.
Original strength of the 1st Div was, approx 12,000 men. Present strength, approx 6,000. Original strength of the 112th HMG Unit, approx 280. Present strength, same as original strength. Each Regt had an original strength of approx 3,000 men. Each Bn had an original strength of approx 600 men.

c. Equipment:
Tank Bn originally had 12 tanks, but by 15 Oct 50 all tanks were destroyed. Armored Bn originally had 12 SU-76s, but by 15 Oct 50 all SU-76s were destroyed. The HMG Unit had 2 HMGs left 25 Oct 50. (Original number 36). PW observed 3 AT rifles at KUJANG DONO (BV4517)

d. Intentions:
PW heard from a staff officer that the 1st Div was to defend MAMPO (BA7359).

e. Knowledge of Other Units:
PW observed approx 5,000 CCF troops between CHONCH'ON MYON (BA8409) and KANGGYE (EA9838) 25 Oct 50. PW also observed approx 300 trucks and 20 Howitzers in the above group.

f. Personalities:
LEE, In Ku, Lt Col, CO, 112th HMG Unit

g. Armor and Artillery:
PW observed 7 tanks on the night of 19 Oct at KUJANG MYON (BV4517), heading northward.

h. Defensive Works and Fortifications:
PW observed countless number of fox holes well camouflaged with rice straw approx 30 km N of KUJANG MYON (BV4517).

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies:
Food and ammo supplies wore critical duo to luck of transportation Food was procured locally.

b. Foreign Advisors:
PW observed 3 Russians (probably advisors) at KANGGYE 25 Oct 50.

c. Downed Aircraft:
PW observed what appeared to be a US jet type aircraft downed near vic HYORYONG (DQ6296), on 20 Sep 50.
