PW was inducted 12 Apr 48, at HSINKING, MANCHURIA into the 38th Army, 114th Div, 340th Regt. Prior to entering KOREA, the 114th Div was stationed at KAI YUEN, MANCHURIA. 19 Oct 50 the entire 114th Div crossed the Korean border on foot; just as the Div arrived on Korean soil, the Div was separated into Regts, thereafter the PW's Regt marched southward on the main road for approximately one month before they were fired upon by enemy artillery shells. PW was wounded in the leg and was left behind without being evacuated and without medical care. PW believes the Regt retreated approx 6 km WNW of HUICHON (BV-6849) since they left most of their personal belongings there, and that they would be coming after their personal belongings. After the troops retreated PW stayed with a farmer at CHANGPO-RI for approximately three days before he was captured 17 Nov 50.
Prior to the shelling on 13 Nov 50, the 340th Regt was composed of 3 Inf Bns, each Bn (540 men) composed of 3 Inf Cos, HMG Co, Med Plat and Sig Sqd. Each Inf Co had 120 to 130 men.
In PW’s 2nd Co the troops were armed with 9 LMGs (300 rounds per LMG), 3 × 60mm mortars, 15 pistols, and the rest were armed with US carbines (80 rounds per man) and grenades.
PW stated that food supply for their Regt was looted from farmers and villagers in the unit’s immediate area.
The mission of the 340th Regt was to capture the city of HUICHON, via the road, by Bns.

4. ENEMY LOSSES:
On 13 Nov 50, when the 1st Bn was shelled by enemy artillery, they lost about 14 men, however, no weapons were destroyed.

5. REMARKS:
PW stated that the 341st and 342nd Regts of the l14th Div were known as the 8th and 9th Regts. Reason for having two different designations was not known.
