In the latter part of July 1950, PW heard that two American PsW were captured by the 2nd Regt of the North Korean 7th Div at YECH’ON (醴泉).
In the early part of August 1950, the 7th Div occupied ANDONG (安東). Four kilometers north of ANDONG, PW observed approximately 230 ROK PsW in a small village as he was marching toward ANDONG. It is believed that the ROK PsW were taken by the 1st and 2nd Regts of the 7th Div, since these Regts had occupied ANDONG.
On an unidentified mountain near KIGYE (杞溪) PW heard from a signalman of the 7th Div, 2nd Regt, 3rd Bn that one ROK PW had been executed for “ideological reasons.” This signalman told the PW that he had overheard the commander of the 3rd Bn tell the commander of the 2nd Regt that a ROK PW had been killed for “ideological obstinancy.” PW did not know the names of the 3rd Bn commander or persons directly responsible for the killing of the ROK PW.
About 10 Aug 50, P’OHANG-DONG (浦項洞) was occupied by the 7th Div. On a high mountain, thickly overgrown with small pine trees, about 3 km west of P‘OHANG-DONG, PW observed 40 to 50 ROK PsW confined in 5 or 6 farmers’ houses. All of these ROK PsW were captured by the 2nd Regt of the 7th Division. Details concerning persons responsible for treatment of PsW were unknown, since FW surrendered to ROK soldiers on 20 Aug 50 at KIGYE after the 7th Div had been forced to retreat from P’OHANG-DONG.
