1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: KIM, Chi Yul (金治律) (김치율)

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative; although the info seems limited, it was reliable, The information derived pertains to the time while the division was retreating up to early Nov 50, and the information should be assessed accordingly.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF: 7th Div, Ren Co (as of 15 Nov 50).
Code Number of the 7th Division was # 851.
7th Div: 3 Inf Regiments (1st, 2nd, 3rd), Rcn Company, Engr Battalion, Guard Platoon, Signal Battalion, Medical Company
Recon Co: 2 Platoons
2nd Platoon: Personnel: 1 Officer and 32 EM. 22 1890/30 rifles (50 rds per), 2 SMG’s (140 rds per), 1 grenade per man
Recon Company: Personnel: 3 Officers and 67 EM.
7th Division: Personnel: EM & Officer - Approx 2,000
PW stated that of these 2,000 men he did not know how many were from the original 7th Div and how many were stragglers from other divisions.
PW did not see any tanks or artillery pieces with the 7th Division.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
When elements of the Recon Co (12 men) went to NAMYANG NI, they encountered American troops; 2 men died, others scattered and PW surrendered.
This reconnaissance group was sent ahead to determine whether the town was in friendly hands so that the 7th Division could move in. The PW’s Co was at TAETONG-NI (대웅리).
PW heard that when they made the reconnaissance, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Regiments (strength unk) were supposed to follow them from KANGWON DO (江原道).

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the 38th Parallel Guard Regt at SIBYON-RI on 14 June 49.
Received approx 1 month of training.
In Aug 49, tho PW was placed in the 7th Brigade Guard Co at SIBYON-RI.
On 25 Aug 50, the PW’s unit was redesignated as the 7th Div Recon Co at KWANGJU.
While traveling to NAMYANG NI from SIBYON-RI tho following places were passed:

PW was captured by American troops on samo day.

6. PERSONALITIES:

7. REPLACEMENTS:
The PW stated that during the retreat, the Ron Co took in whatever stragglers they could get. PW definitely could not state when and from where they joined the 7th Division.
As of 15 Nov 50, tho PW estimated that only 1/3 of his platoon wore original personnel.

8. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
After the UN push, the PW did not know the source of food supplies; all he know was that the Co CO and Plat Ldr acquired food for the troops.
Ammo was carried with the troops when they started to retreat.

9. ARMOR & ARTILLERY:
The PW stated that while they were retreating from UIRYONG (when the American troops started to advance), the North Korean forces destroyed an unknown number of 82mm mortars and 45mm guns.

10. MORALE:
The morale in the Rcn Co was very low.
