FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0113) 17 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition. Was of average intelligence and cooperative. PW was a farmer prior to induction in the Nationalist Army. Served for 6 years. Captured by CCF in 1949. PW volunteered for KOREA. Reason: No relatives and lack of food. PW did not expect to fight in KOREA. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Prior to crossing the YALU River to SINUIJU 20 Oct 50, 39th Army was located at ANTONG for approx 3 months. During this period PW was trained in mountain climbing and use of the rifle. At time of crossing the river, Army’s strength was approx 50,000 with 10 tanks and 12 Arty pieces (cal unk). Arty pulled by 4 horses. Each Bn was equipped with 27 ING’s, 18 HMG’s and mortars. 6 days after crossing YALU River 116th and 117th Divisions contacted UN Forces at UNSAN YE3928 for 3 days. Casualties were approx 400 dead and 200 wounded. 500 deserters. PW observed replacements (details unknown). 115th Division was located at TAECH’ON and believed still there. Strength approx 17,000. 117th Div was at UNSAN when PW deserted on 13 Nov 50.
