FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0098) 13 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was suffering from wounds on left rump and waist received approx 8 days ago. Treated at the 24th Div Medical Clearing Station 11 Nov 50. At time of capture PW was dressed in padded trousers worn over officers green. Both trousers showed evidence of red stripes sewed on seams being pulled off. Believe that PW is CCF officer. Possibly company commander of 8th Company. Stated three different stories on procuring officer clothing. Shirt was wool O with blue collar. Itinerary prior entering NORTH KOREA hazy. Personal actions suggest composure and deliberation. On answering questions PW answers leisurely with slight hesitancy. In answering obvious questions PW rate of speech increases. Information obtained is considered unreliable. Claims to have been a private in the Nationalist Army. PW stated that he was engaged in farming prior to entering the service.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology: PW volunteered into the Chinese Nationalist Army at PEIPING on or about 10 Jun 47. Assigned to an independent Regiment. Captured by the CCF at PEIPING in Feb 49, and assigned to 40th Army, 120th Div, 359th Regt, 3rd Bn, 8th Co as a cook. 40th Army (composed of 3 divisions) departed PEIPING in Feb 49 and arrived in LIAOYANG. Stationed at LIAOYANG for approx 1 year and received field training, Departed LIAOYANG early Jul 50, and arrived in ANTUNG the very same month. At ANTUNG received approx 2 months of mountain training. Crossed the YALU River approx 50 days ago. Marched to unknown destinations at night only. Approx 10 days ago his unit engaged UN Forces. During this battle PW was wounded and left back by his comrades. When PW could not contact his unit he crawled down a hill and took refuge in an abandoned farm house. On or about 11 Nov 50, approx 30 to 40 US troops entered the farm house where PW was hiding. Informed PW to remain in the house. On or about 120900 Nov 50, PW was picked up and admitted to the 3rd Bn, 19th RCT Aid Station. (Note: PW had joined 3 other wounded CCF approx 3 days ago, but neglected to state this fact).
b. PW’s Unit or Group: PW stated that the 40th Army is composed of 3 divisions. Numerical designations unknown. The 359th Regt CP was located vicinity hill (location unk). Approx 1,500 troops in surrounding hills. Units on right and left flanks of PW’s Regt unknown. Original strength of 359th composed of 3 battalions and one arty company (attached). Arty Company equipped with 4 heavy mortars (cal unk) and 4 field guns (cal unk). Each Bn composed of 3 Infantry companies and one MG co. MG Co equipped with 6 HMG’s, 9 LMG’s and 3 Mortars. 3 sods to a plat. 4 plat to a Co. Locations of other CCF troops unknown to PW. All other troops armed with Jap type rifles. No knowledge of NK troope with the CCF.
