2. ASSESSMENT:
PW answered questions freely, and knowledge of military information was fair.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
6 May 43 - Volunteered for the Chinese Nationalist Force at NANKING (南京). Received six months of training, on arty, at HSU CHOU (徐州). Often observed US Military Advisory group personnel.
Jul 44 - Entrain for LIEN-SHUI (連水). Unit engaged elements of the 8th Route Army, for period of approximately 4 months. 6 months at SHANTUNG-PUJEE (山東) one yr at HUPEI (湖北). Three months at YUN MENGSHAN (雲夢山). 3 mos at HUPEI (湖北). 3 mos at PEIPING (北京). 2 mos at YUNMENGSHAN (雲夢山). Six months at SHANGHAI (上海). 1 mo at NANKING (南京).
Mar 50 - Source was captured by elements of the 8th Route Army at NANKING. Here at, PW was inducted into the CCF, 30th Army, 89th Div. During period approximately 70% of the troops were former CNA personnel.
Apr 50 - Estimated strength of one Regt entrained for HSU CHOU (徐州). On route the 89th Regt was deactivated into the 20th CCF Army Unit. Arrived in SUJYU, on said month.
May 50 - Estimated 1000 troops entrain for SHANGHAI. Upon arriving, troops received large quantity of supplies.
Jul 50 - The 20th Army entrained for YANZU (徐州).
Sep 50 - Unit arrived in YANZU.
20 Oct 50 - The 20th Army departed for the border (Korean) by rail via FENGTIEN (奉天). Arrived at an unk destination after two day trip. Thereon troops marched during night across the border to en unknown area. For approximately 20 days after entering KOREA, troops kept on constant move at night through the mountains. Movement was made by Regiments.
27 Nov 50 - PW with three others deserted Unit.
28 Nov 50 - PW surrendered to US troops. PW stated that all four were happy to surrender to the US troops, when waved to and told to come out with hands raised. Because they had not had food for two days.

4. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:
The 20th Army was composed of three unknown divisions. Disposition of units unknown, but PW heard that one Div was kept in reserve. Each Div was composed of three Infantry Regts, Div Arty (approx str 200) equipped with 122mm Howitzers, 30 Cav men, used as messengers, Medical Co, and a Reconnaissance Co. Each Regt had 152mm Howitzers.
Bn’s each had 2×82mm Mortars. Each Co had 2×60mm Mortars, and six LMG’s.
Strength of a company was estimated as about 100. Troops were equipped with rifle and 80 rounds, and 4 grenades, with the exception of the squad leader and assistant who were equipped with PPSH.

5. FOOD AND AMMUNITION SUPPLIES:
Food was purchased at local villages. Troops receive ammo, but source was unknown.

6. ENEMY INTENTIONS:
Troops were told that the Div was to take the offensive. Destination was unknown.

7. MORALE:
Estimated 70% former CNA troops. Morale was low, because food was scarce, and troops could not sleep for all movements were made at night. The day was spent on detail while other original CCF personnel slept. PW further stated that, if these troops learned that they were fighting against the US morale will be lowered further.

8. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
PW stated that a Unit Headquarters made constant move with the troops, with interval of approximately 7 km to the rear.
