12 Apr 40 - Volunteered into CNA “HU TZU NAN” (胡宗南) Forces at “SHANGNAN HSIEN” (PHONETIC) (商南縣) SHANSI PROVINCE, CHINA.
May 49 - Captured at SHANG HAI and assigned to CCF 20th Army 89th Div, 265th Regt, 2nd Bn, 5th Co. Entire 20th Army was in SHANG HAI.
13 Oct 50 - The 265th Regt departed SHANG HAI by train. PW believed that the 265th Regt was the first unit of the 20th Army leaving SHANG HAI and the other units of the 20th Army were to follow.
o/a 8 Nov 50 - The 265th Regt arrived at a MANCHURIAN village on the bank of the YALU River (place name unknown) at night and marched across the YALU River on a narrow bridge.
27 Nov 50 - The 265th Regt arrived at a small village in the vicinity of SACHANG-NI and was immediately engaged by UN Troops. The Regt suffered a large number of casualties and retreated in a disorderly manner leaving many weapons behind. PW observed about 100 NK stragglers in groups of 2 or 3 retreating N while marching to the SACHANG-NI Area. These NK stragglers were in poor physical condition and without weapons. PW has not heard nor seen any other CCF Units in the SACHANG-NI Area.
On this day PW and 4 other members of the 265th Regt surrendered to UN troops because of the heavy fire power from the UN and because they had no food for 2 days. They did not have the will to fight.

4. ORGANIZATION:
20th Army consisted of the 89th, 60th, and 90th Div, Source did not know the strength of each Division but estimated that there wore approximately 3,000. men in the 89th Div.
89th Div consisted of the 265th, 266th, and 267th Regts. Estimated strength of the 265th Regt was 1,000.
265th Regt consisted of the 1st, 2nd, and 3d Bns. Estimated strength of the 2nd Bn was approximately 400.
2nd Bn consisted of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Infantry Companies and a HMG Company. Estimated strength of each company was approximately 90 men.
5th Company consisted of the 1st, 2nd, and 3d platoons and there was about 25-30 men in each platoon.
2nd Platoon to which PW was assigned was composed of the 4th, 5th, and 6th squads each with 6 to l0 men.

5. WEAPONS:
LNG’s - 6 in a company
HMG’s - 6 in a Bn
Mountain Guns - 2 in a Div
Light Mortars - 1 in a Bn
Telephone - 1 in Bn Hqs.
The men wore armed with US and Chinese rifles. PW observed 3 US carbines in his battalion. Each man had about 80 rounds of rifle ammo and 4 hand grenades. The 265th Regt was comparatively well equipped. Only men who were in poor physical condition and wounded wore not provided with arms. PW has not seen any artillery pieces in the CCF Units in KOREA.

6. GENERAL:
Morale was low in the 265th Regt due to lack of food and the dislike of fighting for the CCF. About 50% of the men in the 265th Regiment were former CNA personnel. The men did not know for what purpose they were in KOREA as their superiors did not inform them. PW believed that only company commanders and on up know why they were being sent to KOREA.
There were often quarrels between regular line officers and political affairs officers as they disagreed on many things, Political affairs officers often did not practice what they lectured to the men.

For the AC of S, G-2:
