5 Apr 50 - Entire 42nd Army moved to CHIAN (輯安) for training. PW was told by his company commander that the 41st and 43d Armies were training in the same area, but PW never saw these two organizations. During this training which lasted until late Sep 50, desertion was rampant, running as high as 50%.
9 Oct 50 - 42nd Army entrained at CHIAN 1200 hours, and arrived in KOREA 8 days later at an unknown point. PW is not aware of how many days of this travel was consumed in MANCHURIA. 42nd Army engaged in combat about 15 Nov 50.
18 Nov 50 - The 42nd Army moved at night out of SACH'ANG-NI (社倉里) southwest towards YONG AN (永安) marching for one day, arriving at place unknown, 19 Nov 50.
20 Nov 50 - PW accompanied by another man deserted the night of 20 Nov 50, and moved in what they thought to be the direction of ANTUNG (安東), but ended up back in SACHANG-NI (社倉里), 21 Nov 50 where they went into hiding, but were captured 24 Nov 50.

4. ORGANIZATION:
PW was a member of the 42nd CCF Army. The 42nd Army was composed of three (3) Divisions 124th, 125th, 126th. Each Division consisted of three (3) Regiments. The 126th to which PW belonged was comprised of the 376th, 377th, and 378th Regts. Regiments were composed of three (3) Battalions in the PW's organization these were the 1st, 2d, and 3rd Battalions. Battalions contained four rifle companies and one HMG Co and each company had 3 mortars. Riflemen also carried three hand grenades each. Companies were composed of three rifle platoons and one mortar platoon, in the case of PW, the 1st, 2d, 3d, and mortar platoon. Each Platoon contained three squads.
Division strength is estimated at 10,000 or more men. Weapons were of Chinese make.

5. PERSONALITIES:
CHOU (FNU) Battalion Commander
WANG Chin Ta (五金堂) Company Commander
CHU Ming Tsu (初明洙) Platoon Leader
TSU (FNU) Asst platoon leader

6. GENERAL:
There was no trouble in the PW's Company between CCF and CNA personnel.
Officers were designated by red stripes on sleeves, and red piping on trousers. NCO's were no rank.
Company Commanders and Asst Company Commanders did not appear to get along with the Political Officer, because evidently the Political Officer interfered with the company administration.
PW states each company in his regiment had about 40 CNA personnel, who joined them in November 1949, but not in any large influx.
Most of the CNA in PW's regiment were riflemen.
The CNA men varied - some were good soldiers, some bad. There were CNA deserters but they were about on a par with CCF in that respect.
