2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative. He spoke freely. Information herein is fairly reliable.

3. MILITRAY HISTORY:
8 Oct 49 - Inducted at ANTUNG (安東) and attached to the 4th Field Army, Area Replacement Center, Training Division and received two months of military training.
10 Dec 49 - Source was transferred to the 4th Army, Advance Training Division at PENCHI (本溪) and received three months of advance training.
Mar 50 - Source and unknown number of troops were transferred to CHINYUAN (靑原) Medical Detachment, 377th Regt of the 126th Div, 42nd Army.
Mar 50 - The 126th Division of the 42nd Army was engaged in combat with the Chinese Nationalist Army in various places.
Jul 50 - The 126th Division returned to TUNCHUA (通化) area.
13 Oct 50 - The 126th Division departed TUNGHWA.
14 Oct 50 - The above Division arrived at CHIAN (輯安) and crossed the YALU River on the above date into North KOREA. At this time the 126th Div consisted of 376th, 377th and 378th Regiments.
18 Oct 50 - The entire 126th Division arrived at KANGGYE (江界). Source did not observe other elements of the NKA nor CCF units in this area. The 126th Div passed thru KANGGYE and arrived at an unknown village 20 km S of KANGYE. The Div remained here for two days.
20 Oct 50 - The division departed the unknown village and marched in a southest direction.
O/a 16 Nov 50 - The Division arrived near CHANGJIN (長津) Peservoir. Source did not observe any other CCF units in this area.
20 Nov 50 - The entire 126th Division arrived at SACHANG-NI (社倉). (Hearsay from Regt CO) The 378th Regiment of the 126th Division departed SACHANGNI during the night. Then the 376th Regt departed about two hours later. The 377th waited for about three hours after the 376th Regt had departed toward YONGDONG-NI (龍德里).
21 Nov 50 - The 377th Regt arrived at YONGDONG-NI. Upon arrival source heard that the 378th Regt and the 376th Regt left the area for an unknown destination.
22 Nov 50 - Source deserted his unit at YONGDONG-NI.
23 Nov 50 - PW was captured by the 26th ROK at SACHANG-NI. After their arrival in KOREA source never actually saw any CCF other than the 377th Regiment, All travelling in KOREA was done at night. When the 377th Regiment passed the Choshin Reservoir passed to the East of the Reservoir.

4. ORGANIZATION.
The 42nd Army consisted three Divisions (see Chart). The total strength of one Regiment was about 2,100 men.

5. WEAPONS:
76mm Gun M1943 Co - 5 x 76mm with 30 - 40 rds of ammo per gun.
120mm Mortar Co - 5 x 120mm Mortars with 30 - 40 rounds of ammo per mortar.
Inf Co - 60mm Mortars (3) with 30 rounds of ammunition per mortar. Former Jap IMG (6) with 300 rounds per IMG.
Each rifleman carried Model 38 Jap rifle with 80 rounds of ammunition plus 4 hand grenades.
Heavy WEAPONS CO - 3 x 80mm Mortars with about 30 rounds of ammunition per mortar - 6 HMG (water cooled) US type with 2,000 rounds of ammunition per HMG.
Approximately 30 - 35 pack horses were attached to the 76mm Gun Co and 120mm Mortar Co for transportation purpose.
MEDICAL DETACHMENT - There were three army doctors and about 20 Medical men in the detachment. Approximately 50 men were attached as litter bearers. There was a shortage of medical supplies. This medical detachment never had occasion to care for any wounded personnel since this regiment entered KOREA. The medical detachment held daily sick call.
In addition to the Regimental Medical Detachment there was a Battalion Medical Detachment of from 7 to 8 men (one of them a doctor). In each company there were two medical aid men.

6. SPECIAL EEI:
During 1948 - 1949 the ex-CNA personnel were being conscripted into the 42nd Army. The process was a continuous one. Approximately 70% of the 42nd Army is now composed of ex-CNA troops. There was no discrimination between ex-CNA and CCF personnel.
