FIELD REPORT (164 - MISDI - 1200)

1. PW NAME: LEE, Un Yol (李殷悅) (리은열)
 RANK: Pvt (战士)
 ORGANIZATION: 49th Div, 3rd Regt, SMG Company
 DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 231000 1 Oct 50 Approximately 7 miles North of PYONGYANG.
Of a total of 83 men in the SMG Company, only 5 of the officers wer armed with SMG's; the rest of the personnel were unarmed.

2. PW NAME: KAN, Ok Kyu (简玉奎) (간옥규)
 RANK: Pvt (战士)
 ORGANIZATION: 49th Div, 3rd Regt, (Code NO. 471 Unit), SP Gun Co
 DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 221500 1 Oct 50 at CHASAN (BU 5159)
PW with this unit during period from 23 Sep 50 to 12 Oct 50.
Self-propelled Gun Company conssited of 72 EM and one (1) officer. Only 2 × SMG's constituted the weapons of this Company. There were no Self-propelled Guns in this Self-propelled Gun Company.
Self-propelled Gun Company was in KUMSAN MYON from 23 Sep 50 to 11 Oct 50.

3. PW NAME: PAK, Han Sop (朴翰燮) (박한섭)
 RANK: Pvt (战士)
 ORGANIZATION: 31st Div, 3rd Regt, 1st Bn, Signal Platoon.
 DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 201000 1 Oct 50, at TONGYANG MYON (Approx 32 km due east YANGDOK) by ROK Civil Guards.
All units from Division and below based upon the triangular system.
Signal Platoon consisted of 15 EM and one (1) officer; there were 10 × M1891/30 rifles and 1 × SMG to this platoon.
The Signal Platoon was unable to function because of the lack of equipment.

4. PW NAME: KIM, Chin Su (金鎭洙) (김진수)
 RANK: Pvt (战士)
 ORGANIZATION: Higher Naval Hqs, WONSAN Naval Base (Code #599), Rear Hqs, Intendance Platoon.
 DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 221500 1 Oct 50 on a road between SAINJAN and PYONGYANG.
Highter Naval Hqs: 3 × Naval Bases
559 Naval Base: At WONSAN

PW did not know which baes the code number #546 represents - CHONGJIN or CHINNAMP'O.
WONSAN Naval base was composed of a Naval fleet base and Marine Headquarter (Code #588). Naval fleet base was composed of Chief of Staff, Culture Section & Rear Headquarters.
Rear Headquarters was composed of the following:
a. Intendance Platoon (Men in this Platoon loaded & unloaded food supplies.) Ordnance, Food Section, Culture Section and Transport Platoon, truck repair platoon, Guard Platoon Clothing Section & Operation Section.
PW did not know the T/O & E of the Marine Headquarter & the Naval Fleet. He did not see any warships or any gun boats.

LOCATION AND ACTIVITES OF UNITS: (As of 9 Oct 50)
599th Naval Fleet Base Headquarters was located at WONSAN.
Rear Headquarters was located at TOGWON (CU 5937). On 9 Oct 50, PW heard that the Rear Headquarters was about to move to KOWON (CU 1966).
588th Unit (Marine Unit) was located at WONSAN, currently they were at ANBYON (CU 7222).

5. PW NAME: NO Son Yong (盧善泳) (노선영)
RANK: 2nd Lieutenant (Naval) (海軍少尉) (해군소위)
ORGANIZATION: CHINNAMP'O Naval Base (594 Unit), Area Signal Supply Company
DATE AND PLACE OF CAPTURE: 261400 1 Oct 50 vicinity 12 km west of PYONGYANG by Anti-Communist (North Koreans).
The North Koreans Navy was composed of the Naval GHQ, (formerly in PYONGYANG), the CHINNAMP'O, CH'ONJIN, and the WONSAN Naval Bases. The North Korean Navy GHQ was also known as the 546th Unit, the CHINNAMP'O Naval Base, the 549th Unit, the CH'ONJIN Naval Base, the 599th Unit.
The CHINNAMP'O Naval Base was composed of the Naval Headquarters and 1 × Marine Brigade activated on or about 25 Sep 50.
The Naval Headquarters was composed of a Cargo ship (2,000 ton coastal ship), 3 Coast Patrol Boats, (between 500 to 800 ton capacity. Each patrol boat was called a squadron and they were numbered 1 to 3), 1 Base Defense Battalion (Inf), and a Area Signal Unit (Area Signal Unit was equivalent to 1 Infantry company).
The Marine Brigade (239 Unit) was composed of 1 × artillery Battalion and 8 × Rifle Battalions. Each Rifle Battalion was composed of 1 × HMG Company and 3 × Rifle companies.
Each Rifle company was composed of a HMG Platoon and 3 Rifle Platoons. Each Platoon was composed of 4 squads.

REMARKS:
The Marine Brigade was not armed nor uniforms issued. The troops wore the civilian clothing and did not receive military training. They were used to dig trenches around the naval base.
Unit is presently believed to be at SINUIJU. With the approach of UN troops to CHINNAMP'O, the unit was greatly disrupted and disorganized; many of the troops returned home instead of retreating North with the unit.
