o/a 18 Sep 50 - PW and the 7 men were met by a NKA unit known as the "KEKOL" (Phonetic - meaning nightingale) Unit somewhere in the KANGWON Province (江原道). Early Oct 50 - The "KEKOL" Unit arrived at CHUNCH'ON (春川). There were other troops in CHUNCH'ON and PW believed that they were members of the CHUNCH'ON Defense Unit. The man that deserted with PW was PW's cousin and both of their homes were in the same town. They were trying to return home. They walked to the vicinity of CHONGP'YONG (定平) via WONSAN. Hearing that UN Troops were in the HAMHUNG area PW and his cousin decided to go West. Midway between CHONGP'YONG and YONGWON they were seen by a NKA sentry. Fearing that he would be killed PW ran away although the sentry shouted that he would fire. PW became separated from his cousin and does not know what happened to him.
