ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2437　30 November 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - RESUME)　25 November 1950

15 Jul 50 - Inducted at SONGJIN (城津).

15 Jul 50 - PW and approximately 165 inductees departed SONGJIN by train and arrived at PYONGYANG (平壤) 17 Jul 50 and were assigned to the 103rd Unit 3d Bn, 3d Co. Received 20 days of military training at PYONGYANG.

7 Aug 50 - The 3d Bn of the 103d Unit departed PYONGYANG by train and arrived at SUWON (水原) 10 Aug 50.

12 Aug 50 - The 3d Bn departed SUWON by foot.

16 Aug 50 - Arrived at OSAN (乌山).

16 Aug 50 - The 3d Bn departed OSAN by foot.

3 Sep 50 - Arrived at YOSU (麗水).

8 Sep 50 - The 3d Bn departed YOSU on foot and headed North (destination unk).

16 Sep 50 - PW deserted at an unknown place. PW observed NK Units quite often after desertion but designation and details of units were unknown.

24 Nov 50 - Captured at SACHANG RI.

Organization and strength of 103d Unit was unknown. The 3d Bn was comprised of 3 Co's and each Co had 3 platoons. Strength of the 3d Bn was estimated to be about 500 men. The 3d Bn was equipped with one mortar and 2/3 of the men were armed with rifles (20 - 30 rounds of ammo).

12 Sep 50 - Conscripted at KOCHANG (高敬 SK) and attached to an unknown unit organized of conscripts.

18 Sep 50 - PW and approximately 300 conscripted departed KOCHANG by trucks.

21 Sep 50 - Arrived at TAEJON (大田).

21 Sep 50 - The 300 conscripts departed TAEJON. o/a 1 Oct 50 they arrived at P'YONGYANG and were assigned to the 779th Unit 2 Bn 2 Co.

2 Oct 50 - The entire 779th Unit departed P'YONGYANG on foot (destination unknown).

3 Oct 50 - PW deserted. After deserting PW hid in mountains and did not observe any NKA or CCF Units.

24 Nov 50 - Captured at SACHANG-NI by ROKs.

Organization and strength of 779th Unit unknown.

Troops carried no weapons. The personnel of the 779th Unit were mainly conscripts from South KOREA.

12 Sep 50 - Inducted at YONGWON (龍原), assigned to the 18th Div, 1st Regt, 1st Bn, 3rd Co and received basic training.

o/a 18 Sep 50 - The entire 18th Div departed YONGWON on foot and arrived at MAENGSAN (孟山) the same day. With approximately 200 other recruits PW received 10 days of tactical training.

o/a 28 Sep 50 - The entire 18th Div departed MAENGSAN for P'YONGYANG (平壤) on foot. PW deserted the same day. Strength of the 18th Div was unknown. PW did not observe the Div after deserting.

24 Nov 50 - Captured by ROK Forces at SACHANG NI (社倉里).

When the above information was re-checked and source informed of the impossibility of his statement, he changed the unit designation to the 18th Regt and then became confused and said he did not know. It is believed that source is ignorant and misinformed and is unable to give any information of value.
