1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation.
PW was a farmer prior to being inducted into the NKA 1 Oct 50. PW was very cooperative and information obtained seems fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology.
PW was inducted into the NKA at SINUIJU 1 Oct 50. PW received Inf basic training from 7 Oct to 31 Oct 50. Training included: Close order drill and manual of arms. Rifle used during training was 7.62m/m M1891/30 rifle, however, PW stated that he did not practice firing. Upon completion of training. PW and 800 other men were assigned to the 4th Bn. On 2 Nov 50, PW's unit departed SINUIJU and marched to YANGGAMYON (YD2495), via NAGON, NAPCHONGJONG, arriving o/a 11 Nov 50. At this location, PW deserted his unit and was captured by the 1st ROK Div at an unk village in YANGGA-MYON 12 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
The 4th Bn consisted of seven (7) Cos (numbered 1st to 7th consecutively). There were approx 800 men and 40 officers. The 4th Co (Code name: CHONCH'A (전차), meaning Tank) consisted of four (4) Plats. The 4th Co had approx 150 men and 6 officers. The 1st Plat (Code name: SONAMU (소나무), meaning Pine Tree) had approx 39 men and 1 officer. The 1st Sqds (Code name: CHEJUDO (제주도), name of island) strength 10 men.

c. Equipment.
All men of the 1st Sqd were armed with M1891/30 rifles. The Sqd Ldr was armed with a PPsh SMG. The 1st Plat Ldr was armed with a Tokarov pistol. The 1st Plat was equipped with two (2) DP LMGs with approx six (6) drums. The 4th Co Comdr was armed with a Tokarov pistol and the Exec O was armed with a PPsh SMG. Total number of DP LMGs in 4th Co was 8 (2 to each plat).

d. Personalities:

SIM, Man Kyu (심만규) Jr Lt Plat Ldr (1st Plat)
O, Pyong T'ae (오병태) Sr Lt Co Comdr (4th Co)

e. Armor and Artillery.
PW stated that he observed approx 6 T=34 tanks in vic of CHONGJU (XD9095) o/a 5 Nov 50. The tanks were heading towards PAKCHON. No arty pieces were observed by PW.

g. Morale.
Morale of 4th Bn was low due to majority of the men being conscripts. The men were afraid of UN aircraft and arty. PW stated that he heard from his Co Comdr that the Mongolians would assist the NKA in fighting the UN forces.

4. GENERAL
a. Food and Ammo Supplies.
Food was procured locally. PW stated that he ate once or twice a day. At time of departure from SINUIJU, the men were issued M1891/30 rifles and also 75 rds of ammo and 2 hand grenades per man.

b. NK Air Force.
PW heard from his Co Comdr that the CCF Air Force will support the NKA. Also heard that the planes will be jet type planes.
