1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a pharmacist in the Medical Administration Bureau of the North Korean Gov't prior to being inducted. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation. Previously interrogated by 24th Div IPW Team.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology.
PW was inducted into the NK Army and immediately commissioned Sr Lt 14 Aug 50 at P'YONGYANG. PW did not receive any training. PW remained in P'YONGYANG. until 23 Sep 50, during which time he was engaged in testing medicines. PW departed P'YONGYANG by truck and arrived at SINUIJU (YE2040) 26 Sep 50. Travelling was done at night. (PW was assigned to the 548th Unit immediately after being inducted). After three days at SINUIJU until 1 Nov 50, during which time he was engaged in testing medicines. PW deserted his unit 2 Nov 50, to return to P'YONGYANG, and upon reaching ANJU, he surrendered 7 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
The 548th Unit was composed of the following sections:

PW stated that the decrease in personnel strength was due to the number of deserters in his unit.

c. Equipment.
There were approx 3 pistols and 10 rifles in PW's unit. Medical supplies were critical. One third of the medical supplies were American supplies obtained in SEOUL after the American forces withdrew.

d. Dispositions.
When last seen (2 Nov 50) PW's unit was located approx 300 yards W of RR bridge spanning the YALU River at SINUIJU.

e. Knowledge of Other Units.
On or about 27 Oct 50, PW heard from a Medical Officer of the 1st NK Corps that it had retreated from KUSONG (XE9329) to SINUIJU (YE2040) and the 6th NK Corps moved from SINUIJU to ANTUNG (YE1943). PW also heard that the 105th Armored Unit was still at the front.
062000 Nov 50, PW observed approx 1,000 Chinese troops and five (5) horse drawn howitzers (size unk) at KUSONG, heading towards SINUIJU. There were also 20-30 horses loaded with supplies.
072300 Nov 50, PW observed another 1,000 Chinese troops, 20-30 horses and five (5) horse drawn howitzers (size unk) at TAECHON (YE1520), heading towards SINUIJU.
020700 Nov 50, PW observed 4-5 large AA Guns (size unk) located in front of the SINUIJU RR Station. The guns were protected with sandbags.
PW also heard that the majority of the NK troops moved from SINUIJU to ANTUNG on the night of 1 Nov 50.
PW heard that military and civilian leaders held conferences in the Labor Party Bldg located 1 km NE of the SINUIJU RR Station, and that the NK Gov't was located at KANGGYE with the Military Hq at SINUIJU.

g. Foreign Advisors.
There was one Russian doctor (civilian) who was assigned to the 548th Unit at SINUIJU.

4. GENERAL:
a. Armor:
PW observed two tanks (type unk) crossing the river from SINUIJU to ANTUNG o/a 27 Oct 50. PW stated that while lying on his bed he heard heavy equipment (probably tanks) being assembled at the RR Station (probably to be transported to ANTUNG) on the night of 27 Oct 50.

b. Bridges.
PW stated that there is one bridge spanning the YALU River from SINUIJU to ANTUNG. This bridge is approx 200 meters long with steel pilings and wooden planks. The width is approx 12 feet. PW stated that tanks are transported by train over a railroad trestle located approx 10 meters W from the above bridge.
