PW was intelligent, sincere and cooperative. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
9 Jul 49: Inducted at PYONGYANG, Received approx 10 months training. PW was assigned to the AA Bn of the 585 unit.
8 Sep 50: Promoted to Jr Lt. l Bn of the 585 unit used to form the 499 AA Ind Bn at PYONGYANG.
10 Oct 50: Unit departed by truck, after receiving news t.hat UN Forces were close to PYONGYANG. Arrived at TONGBUNG-NI (YD 4441) 11 Oct 50.
19 Oct 50: Unit retreated toward the north.
22 Oct 50: PW was captured at KAECH'ON (BU 5895)

Original Organization and Strength:
499 AA Ind Bn (As of 22 Oct 50)
3 AA Cos - Total 330 men. 1 Recon Plat; 1 Signal Plat; and 1 Hq Plat.

Equipment:
499 AA Gun Ind Bn - 335 (SIC.) × 12.7mm DShk M1938 AA MG. This type of MG is comparable to US .50 cal MG. It had a dual-purpose mount with wheels and shield either for AA or for infantry support. Maximum vertical effective range 1,800 ft. Maximum horizontal effective range 1,800 ft. Maximum horizontal range approx 7,000 meters, Average of 125 RPM. A fast crew could fire 550-600 RPM. Front ring and rear aperture sights. Each ammo clip contains 50 rds.
Troops were armed with US M1938 Carbine, 100 rds and PPsh M1941 SMG.
9 Field glasses.

Methods of Defense: - 5 man crew. Gun emplacements are approx 90" wide, 40" deep. When defending any military building of importance AA Guns are usually placed beside the buildings offering partial protection from aircraft fire. When located in mountains or broken terrain, AA Guns are placed in tunnel entrances or dugouts, with aircraft spotters on the high ground.
Types of defense varies under different conditions. No set rule or defense pattern is used. Usually the CO directs the disposition of the AA Guns.
Mass fire on the objective is one of the methods of fire.

Clothing:
Most of the troops were issued cotten padded winter uniforms and a blanket, Newly inducted soldiers were dressed in summer uniforms.

Food:
Troops ate on an average of 3 times a day. They received approx 800 grams of rice per day, and cabbage soups mixed with pork.
