3. MILITARY HISTORY:
16 Aug 50 - Inducted at HAMHUNG (咸興) and assigned to the 157th Inf Unit, 2nd Bn, 2nd Co, 3rd Plat.
Received basic training for about 20 days and the 157th Unit (150 men) served at HAMHUNG for about 2 mos as guards at the court house, post office and radio station.
The guards were armed with rifles and the Sqd leaders (10 men) were armed with PPSH SMG's.
o/a 8 Oct 50 - The 357th Guard Unit (50 men) from HUNGNAM (咸興), l57th Unit and about 300 other Inf soldiers who had just finished basic training at HAMHUNG (咸興) were organized as the 2nd Regt, Ind Bn. This was all the information on the T/O that the soldiers were given. The 2nd Regt left HAMHUNG (咸興) the same evening by truck.
Arrived at KOWON (高原) 2 days later and stayed at KOWON for a day. Hearing that the UN troops had entered WONSAN (元山) and because the terrain of KOWON (高原) would be at a disadvantage to the 2nd Regt, the unit withdrew towards YONGHUNG (永興).
o/a 12 Oct 50 - Arrived at YONGHUNG (永興) and defended the southern outskirts of the city with an Arty unit that had 3×l22mm guns manned by about 20 men.
The same day that the defensive position was set up, this combined unit lost the 3×l22mm guns by aerial attack, and PW's unit destroyed all their AA guns (three 15 or 20mm size) because nobody knew how to operate them.
PW's unit was ordered to retreat and by the time that the 2nd Regt reached HAGARU RI (下碣里) its strength was reduced to about 300 men. Losses in men were due to desertion and the ones who could not keep up the pace were left behind.
o/a 27 Oct 50 - The 2nd Regt reached HAGARU RI stayed for a day and marched southward with the same strength of 300 men, armed with 3 HMGs, 15 DEGYTYAREV LMGs, 45 PPSH tommy guns and rifles.
o/a 30 Oct 50 - Arrived at HUKSURI (黑水里) and set up defensive positions.
19 Nov 50 - A battle with the UN troops took place and after an hour's exchange of fire PW's unit was ordered to withdraw. PW did not withdraw and surrendered to unknown UN unit. PW thinks that the 2nd Regt did not lose any men when they retreated. and estimates that the strength is about the same, each man retreating with about 50 rds.

4. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
O/a 30 Oct 50 - There were about an estimated 200 CCF infantrymen in the HUKSU RI (黑水里) area, separated from the 2nd Regt which was the only Regt in that area. These CCFs were in HUKSURI before the 2nd Regt and their duty was to destroy the bridges and roads, This type of work was going on for about 15 days before the 2nd Regt retreated. The CCF retreated 2 days before the 2nd Regt's retreat. It was rumored that the CCF went to SACHANG NI (社倉里).

5. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:
Obs: 8 Oct 50 - 12 Oct 50 The 2nd Regt had only an Ind Bn. There were 3 Cos to this Bn (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and 3 Plats (1st, 2nd and 3rd) to each Co.

6, MORALE:
Low because food was scarce and aversion to fighting the same race of people.

7. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : Obs - o/a 10 Nov 50
While PW's unit held a defensive position on a mountain range about 30 men (guerrillas) wearing civilian clothes and armed with rifles and approx 5 PPSH guns crossed the range and entered the town of PUITULLIP (버들래) located about 9 miles E of HUKSURI (黑水里).
PW's Plat leader stopped the guerrillas on the mountain range and asked them their mission. The leader of the guerrillas answered that they had to report to the police department of PUITULLIP.
The majority of the NKA troops have hatred for the United Nations intervention in their war, and have always fought with the feeling of : You dirty so and so. They also are determined to die because their life is at stake whether they desert or continue fighting.
