ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2404　29 November 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0300)

PW was vague in information.

8 Oct 50 - Inducted at PUKCHONG (北靑) and was given & physical examination with thousands of others. These men were between the ages of 35 - 42.

11 Oct 50 - PW and several hundred recruits were sent to MAJON NI (麻田里) by train. About 250 were assigned to 116th Unit.

12 Oct 50 - PW was assigned to 3rd Bn, 7th Co, 2nd Plat. The 116th Unit was engaged in digging fox-holes and trenches in this area.

16 Oct 50 - The 116th Unit marched down to ORORI (五老里) and up toward KAPSAN (甲山). PW heard from others that this unit was going to evacuate for training. The 116th Unit marched day and night, taking very little rest, averaging about 50 km per day.

o/a 21 Oct 50 - Arrived at SAMSU (三水) via PUNGSAN (豐山) and KAPSAN. This unit took basic training.

o/a 23 Oct 50 - The 116th Unit was located at a HEMP factory which was 2 km W of SAMSU.

o/a 3 Nov 50 - The Unit marched to SINGALPAJIN (新乫波鎭), because of the UN forces' approach. Each man carried 1-to (一斗) (35 lbs) of rice on his back.

5 Nov 50 - The 116th Unit arrived at SINGALPAJIN. PW deserted the same night.

12 Nov 50 - Surrendered to the local police at PUNGSAN.

PW believes the 116th Unit was a Regt. The epaulets worn by the officers and men were red, which is NKA.

The 7th Co consisted of 90 men.

5 Nov 50 at SINGALPAJIN, PW saw many troops in the town and heard from his comrades that SINGALPAJIN was an assembly area. PW believes that all troops here were recruits and were unarmed.

The road from SAMSU to SINGALPAJIN was filled with small detachments of troops marching toward SINGALPAJIN. These troops appeared to be stragglers,

(23 Oct 50) At CHUNG PYON RI, a village consisting of not more than 100 houses PW saw many NKA soldiers staying in the villagers' houses.

The morale of the troops was very low due to the hopelessness of their cause. The civilians in SINGALPAJIN all had weary appearances and had ill-feeling toward the troops because they had to permit the troops in their homes which would cause air-attack to their homes.
