2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was intelligent, sincere and cooperative. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
6 Jul 50: Inducted at PYONGYANG. Basic training 20 days as a cadet of the Pyongyang Military School.
26 Jul 50: Received his commission as a Jr Lt, assigned to the 21 AA Ind Bn.
12 Oct 50: PW's unit departed by truck and arrived at KANG-DONG (BU 4936) 12 Oct 50.
16 Oct 50: 21st Bn departed by truck and arrived at SINANJU 17 Oct 50.
17 Oct 50: PW with one driver departed with a truck for KWANGDONG-NI (YD 5955) to recover an 85mm AA Gun that was left behind. Because of UN forces PW again abandoned the Gun and escaped to SUNCH’ON (YD 8253) where he was taken captive 20 Oct 50.

Organization and Strength:
21st AA Ind Bn - 3 AA Bun Co’s; 1 Recon Plat; 1 Med Plat; 1 Repair Plat; 1 Sig Plat; 1 food section Plat; 1 Hq Plat. Total manpower 300 (as of 20 Oct 50.)
The 85mm and 37mm AA Gun were served by 7 man crew.

Last Known Composition of Unit as of 20 Oct 50:
Approx 220 men retreated to SINANJU (YD 9533)

Equipment:
21st Anti-aircraft Ind Bn (As of 20 Oct 50):
3 x 85mm M1939 AA Gun (Description: Contains Bofores-type muzzle brake. Muzzle velocity 2,950 ft per second. Maximum horizontal range 17,000 yds, Maximum vertical range 34,000 ft. Wt of projectile 20 lbs. Rate of fire 15-20 RPM. Uses T-5 combination fuze with time devise. Maximum armor penetration (in nun) at 550 yds - 111. Carries a total of approx 300 rds.
6 x 37mm M1939 AA Gun (Description: Uses “on carriage” fire control system similar to that of US M-7. Maximum Horizontal range 8, 800 yds. Maximum vertical range 19,800 ft. Maximum armor penetration (in mm at 550 yds) - 46. Wt of projectile 1.6 lbs, Rate of fire 160-180 RPM; 3 ZIS-151 trucks; 7 GAZ-67 Jeeps; 3 x 12.7mn DShk M1938 AA Gun; 20 field glasses; 1 range finder; 2 portable range finders:
N Korean 85 nun AA Guns are placed in a triangle formation, approx 15 meters apart, A range finder is located in the center of one leg of the triangle.
The 37mm AA Guns are placed in position in the same manner as the 85 nun AA Guns. The only exception is that they have one portable range finder for each 3 guns,

Communications:
5 Tam field phones. Aircraft spotters are placed throughout the area by the Recon Plat and messages are relayed to the unit by telephone. All gun crews are connected by field phones.

Clothing:
No winter clothing issued. Nearly all men have only 1 summer blanket each,

Food:
Troops are fed 3 times a day. 800 grams of rice per soldier.

Remarks:
The AA Gun Crews had little training with their weapons. In approx one week of orientation, 8 rds of practice shots were fired by each man in gun crew.
