PW was very cooperative and sincere. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
23 Aug 50: PW volunteered to serve with the CCF in CHILIN, MANCHURIA as an interpreter. Received 20 days of basic training at LIA-HO MANCHURIA, with approx 100 other Koreans. Assigned to the 334 Regt, 112 Div, 38 army as an interpreter with the rank of 2nd Lt. The other Koreans were assigned to various other units and armies.
23 Oct 50: PW's unit departed by RR arrived at JENO-SHENG 24 Oct 50 and crossed into NK at MANP’OJIN 25 Oct 50 and arrived at KANGGYE (BA 9308) 26 Oct 50.
26 Oct 50: The 334th and 335th Regts of the 112 Div, 38 army, departed: marched and arrived at HUIGH’ON (BV 6349) on or about 3 Nov 50.
4 Nov 50: PW’s 334 Regt was assigned the mission of retaking KUJANG-DONG (BV 6518) arid TOKCH’ON. Departed, marched, and arrived at KUJANG-DONG 5 Nov 50 and met resistance from a small ROK detachment. That night the 334 Regt headed for TOKCH’ON and deployed on high ground approx 8 mi NW of TOKCH’ON at a place called SANGYOUNG (BV 6408). After 5 days in SANG YOUNG PW was on a mission to investigate the route to TOKCH’ON with a CCF officer when PW was taken captive 10 Nov 50 by elements of the ROKA.

114th Div - 340th, 341st, 342nd, Regts.
113th Div - 337th, 338th, 339th, Regts.
112th Div - 334th, 335th, 336th, Regts.
334th Regt originally had 2,700 men and 3 rifle Bns. Now has 2,000 men and 1 mortar Bn.

Disposition of Units in Operational Area:
Approx 24,300 CCF troops crossed into N KOREA at MANP’OJIN.

Jap Rifles 38 model approx 800, 200 rds per man; Jap rifles, 99 model, approx 800, 200 rds per man; American .45 SMG (Grease gun), approx 80, no rds unk; American .30 Carbine, approx 100, 20 rds per man; Jap Hotchkiss HMG, approx 10; Jap LMG, approx 30; wireless, approx 1; mortar, approx 10 (cal & make unk), field Phone, approx 4; magnetic compass, approx 35; horses, approx 100; 2½ ton truck (American), approx 50; 4 to 5 Chinese made hand-grenades per man; field arty pieces, approx 10 (Cal & make unk).

Knowledge of other units:
PW heard that the 39th, 40th, 41st, 42nd CCF armies crossed into NK at SINUIJU.

Clothing:
CCF troops. wore all equipped with cotton padded winter clothes.

Food:
Troops are fed twice a day. CCF troops are dissatisfied with their food rations, because of lack of flour. The southern Chinese soldier eats mostly rice, while the northern Chinese eats mostly flour. Rice is the main dish in NK.

Communications:
Various means of Communication within 38th Army. Wireless - to CCF armies, Div & Regts; Telephones - to subordinate Div, Regts, Bns; Courier - to other CCF armies, and to all echelons of the 38th Army; Bugle - from Regts, Bns, Cos, and Plats; Whistles - from Cos, to Plats and Sqds.

Pay Scale:
Pvts to T/Sgts - 70 to 80,000 Chinese Won.
M/Sgt - approx 100,000 Chinese Won.
2nd Lt - approx 130,000 Chinese Won.
1st Lt - approx 150,000 Chinese Won.
Capt - approx 200,000 Chinese Won.

Intentions:
The soldiers wore told before entering NK that they were to help unite N & S KOREA and to protect tho MANCHURIAN Border. No mention was made about fighting American troops. CCF soldiers were very surprised to meet American resistance.

Supply:
CCF troops are lacking in supplies at the present time, because of UN bombings of vital bridges connecting NK and MANCHURIA.

Most Feared Weapons:
Aircraft, Napalm bomb, and tanks.

CCF Security Forces:
A separate militia whoso mission is to protect rear areas and facilities, has boon in use for quite sometime in MANCHURIA. No other details.

Personalities:
4th Field Army (CCF), CG, LIN, Piao, age - approx 40.
The 334 Regt CO has a security code No. of “35”. Names are never used who making important calls.

Remarks:
Former Nationalist soldiers were absorbed into the CCF armies. All captured equipment was made was of by CCF armies. Former Nationalist POW’s do not fever the Communist regime and do not want to return to CHINA.

PW’s Mission within the 334 Regt, 112 Div:
Whenever the Regt plans to move from one area to mother, because of the language difficulties, Korean linguists with one CCF officer, were sent ahead to scout the route, them report back to Regt Hq at which time the plans are put into effect.
