It was considered impractical to obtain detailed information as PW gave conflicting answers, did not know the CNA and CCF units to which he was assigned, and did not even know the date of his birth. He did appear evasive. Interrogator believes that PW gave conflicting answers because he was unobservant and had a poor memory.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
1942 (?) - Volunteered into Chinese Nationalist Army at his hometown, “TAZUWAN” (PHONETIC) SZECHWAN PROVINCE, CHINA (四川).
1948 (?) - Captured by CCF and inducted into the CCF at ANSHAN (鞍山) MANCHURIA.
Early Oct 50 - Crossed the YALU River and entered KOREA. PW claimed that the entire 126th Div entered KOREA at this time.
13 Nov 50 - Captured alone in the vicinity of CHOSIN RESERVOIR.

4. PERSONALITIES:
CHIANG SU YI (張書一) (?), Co CO, about 30, 3d Co CO.
GAI CHU TANG (蓋叔堂) (?), Bn Commander, about 40, 1st Bn Commander.

5. FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
About one month prior to entering KOREA, PW observed approximately 50 Russian Military personnel at ANTUNG (安東) MANCHURIA on one occasion. PW believed that these Russians were army officers because they wore field uniforms and boots.

6. ORGANIZATION:
The 3d Co to which PW was assigned consisted of 3 platoons. There were approximately 150 men in PW's company. PW estimated that the company strength was reduced to about 80 men at the time he surrendered due to casualties.
There were 5 light machine guns in the company. About 80 men in the company were armed with rifles. The men who did not have weapons were employed. in carrying the supplies and luggage of the other men. PW believes there was sufficient ammo when they entered KOREA.
The company was definitely beaten in the engagement with UN Forces in the CHOSIN Reservoir Area and the men retreated in disorder. They received terrific air attacks and artillery bombardment. Many of the men left their weapons behind. The weapons were of Japanese make.

7. MORALE:
Morale in PW’s Company was low due to insufficient food, and strict regimentation.

8. SPECIAL EEI:
PW has not come into contact with NKA personnel and has not seen any friction between CHINESE Forces and NK Army. There appeared to be no ill-feeling between the CCF PW's and NK PW’s. The CCF and NK PW’s kept to themselves due to the language barrier.
The MANCHURIAN People were forced to support the CCF by giving food. PW estimated that approximately 2/3 of the Manchurian population favored the CCF because they were given land and other privileges The other 1/3, who were of the richer class, favored the CNA.
PW surmised that the CCF Units were to be kept separate from NK troops and not joined to any NK Units. It appeared that it was all right for CCF Troops to talk to the HK civil populace.
One third of source’s company was made up or former CNA personnel. While in Manchuria there was some discrimination in that regular CCF members of the company were fed rice, and ex-CNA members were fed maize, but after their arrival in KOREA, ill-feeling caused by this discrimination while in Manchuria was forgotten. Ex-CNA troops were no more prone to desert than regular CCF.
There was a Political Officer in each Company. This Officer often conferred with the Company Commander and there were times when these two officers disagreed. PW believed that the Company Commander had more authority than the political Officer, whose duty was to indoctrinate the men.
