2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed to be of average intelligence. He was cooperative and talked freely.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
12 Aug 50 - Inducted at HUNGNAM and assigned to the 249th Unit, 5th Bn, 2nd Co, Received military training for 10 days.
The 249th Hq was in WONS AN, and only 5th Bn left stationed at HUNGNAM.
14 Oct 50 - The 5th Bn left HUNGNAM and arrived YUDAM NI (遊淡里) 7 Oct 50.
28 Oct 50 - Deserted.
15 Nov 50 - Captured at KOTO RI (古土里)

4. ORGANIZATION:
The 249th Marine Brig Coast Security Unit was composed of 7 Bns. The 5th Bn was composed of 3 Inf Cos, 1 HMG Go, 1 AT Plat, a Rcn Plat and a Comm Plat.

5. STRENGTH:
Strength of the 249th Unit and the 5th Bn was unknown since the 2nd Co was detached at CHAKTO RI (鹊島里) approx 4 km E of HUNGNAM.
The strength of the 2nd Co was 165 men.

6. WEAPONS:
Approx 85 men of the 2nd Co were equipped with Russian rifles (7.62mm) “MOSSIN-NAGANT”, 6 PPSH (7.62mm) “SHPAGIN” submachine guns.
3x7.62mm. “DEGTY-AREV” DP LMGs, and 2x7.62mm “MAXIM” HMGs. PW observed 6x14.5mm "PTRD-1941 AT rifles in the AT Plat.
Number and type of weapons in the 5th Bn or the 249th Unit was unknown.

7. CODE NUMBER:
5th Bn: ME BONG SAN (賣峯山)

8. PERSONALITIES:
KIM, KI YO (金基輿) (김기여), Lt, 22, and Co CO

9. MORALE:
Morale of men was low because they were afraid of air raids.
Food - 3 meals per day consisting of rice, beef or pork. They were fed meat every day and were tired of it.

10. FOREIGN ELEMENT'S:
PW observed CCF troops moving into HAGARU RI (下碣里) o/a 26 Oct 50. PW believed there were at least 5,000 CCF troops equipped with Japanese rifles (38 model), 7.72mm “SUDAEV” PPSH submachine guns and American 30 caliber machine guns, No mortars, artillery or tanks were observed. No trucks were observed, but at least 1,000 horses were seen carrying ammunition and food.
