2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed to be of below average intelligence. He was cooperative and talked freely. Information obtained here is considered hot too reliable.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
Chronology:
o/a 1 Feb 42 - Inducted at CHUN YUN HEN (鎭雲縣) and served in the Nationalist Army until his unit surrendered to the CCF.
o/a 2 Sep 48 - At SHO KYU ZU (小橋子), his unit, the 6th Army, 388th Regt was broken up and elements were assigned to the 42nd Army, 126th Div, 378th Regt, 2nd Bn, 6th Co.
o/a Oct 48 - PW's Unit left YE HIEN (義縣) and arrived PEIKING (北京). The 42nd Army was engaged in battle at PEIKING, When victorious here, the Army advanced to HONAN (河南) and again engaged in battle for about half a year.
o/a Mar 50 - The 378th Regt left HONAN and arrived at TAYAN (奉安).
o/a Aug 50 - Regt left TAYAN and arrived RYU HO (柳河).
o/a Oct 50 - Regt left RYOHO and arrived HANCHOLIN North Korea. Regt withdrew when it met advancing UN Forces.
o/a 17 Nov 50 - PW was captured.

4. ORGANIZATION:
The 42nd Army was composed of 3 divisions; the 124th Div, the 125th Div and 126th Division.
The 126th Division was composed of 3 Regiments; the 376th Regt, the 377th Regt and the 378th Regt.
The 378th Regt was composed of 3 Battalions, the 1st Bn, the 2nd Bn, and the 3rd Bn.
The 2nd Bn was composed of 3 Infantry Companies and 1 Artillery and Machine Gun Company. The 6th Company was composed of 3 Infantry Platoons and 1 Artillery Platoon.

5. STRENGTH:
10-12 men: in each Squad.
30-36 men in each Platoon.
32 men in each Artillery Platoon.
160 men in each Infantry Company.
650 men in each Battalion.
The 378th Regt retreated without engaging in battle; therefore, the present strength is believed to be about the same.

6. WEAPONS:
Each man was equipped with a Japanese rifle (Model 99) and 3 hand grenades, Some men in other companies were equipped with Japanese rifles (Model 38).
In each Infantry Company, there were 2 Japanese 7.7mm light machine guns (1939 Model 99), and 3 American made 60mm mortars.
In the Artillery Company, there were 6 American made water-cooled machine guns (30 calibre) and at least 3 (82 mm) Mortars M 1941.

7. AMMUNITION:
Each man was issued 100 rounds of rifle ammunition and 3 hand grenades.

8. FOOD:
Food was brought in with the Unit from Manchuria on trucks. The troops were fed nothing out millet, 2 meals a day. After the supply of millet was exhausted, food consisted mainly of vegetables which were procured locally.

9. CLOTHING:
Each man was issued one set of cotton underwear, 2 cotton khaki shirts and one pair khaki trousers and 2 pair of socks each year. 2 pair of shoes were issued every three months. For winter, I quilted overcoat and 1 winter cap were issued.

10. WAGE:
The average soldier received 70,000 to 80,000 yuan a month. (NOTE: 1 pack of cigarettes costs 1700 yuan and ½ kg of meat costs 25,000 yuan).

12. MORALE:
PW believes that the morale of the 378th Regiment was low. Soldiers who were originally in the Nationalist Forces lacked fighting spirit, because they did not like the system of the CCF. All men were prohibited from talking to men in other units without permission from the squad leader. PW particularly disliked the restrictions imposed on personal freedom in the CCF.
