PW was cooperative but was cooperative but his information limited. Reliability, fair.

MILITARY HISTORY:
5 Aug 50 - Inducted at SANGWON (祥原). Peoples Primary School. 510 Unit activated, Personnel were all recruits except the NCOs and officers. Received firing, marching, and bayonet attack trng for 2 mos. Recruits’ ages were from 16 to 26.
1 Oct 50 - 510 Unit departed SANGWON on foot for PUKCHONG (北靑). Travelled only night in groups of 12.
17 Oct 50 - PW and 5 others deserted about 7 Kms from PUKCHONG.
19 Oct 50 - Arrived SINHUNG (新興).
21 Oct 50 - Arrived WONGPYONG (元平). Accompanied ROK 18th Regt as ammo carrier.
10 Nov 50 - Arrived YONGAN with 18th Regt.
15 Nov 50 - Departed YONGAN (永安).
17 Nov 50 - Arrived SONGJIN (城津), Captured by MP.

Hearsay:
From fellow deserter at SINHUNG, 19 Oct 50: One half of unit deserted enroute to PUKCHONG.

Weapons:
1 Oct 50, 510 Unit at SANGWON - 10X7.62 Degytarev LMGs, 64 PPSHs, 1 Maxim HMG, 1 jeep, and l Zis truck. All men were issued Mosin 1891/30 rifles during trng but upon departure for PUKCHONG, all weapons were stored in the Peoples Primary School. Soldiers were told weapons would be issued upon arrival at PUKCHONG.

MORALE:
All recruits were seeking a chance to escape but were afraid of reprisals, such as burning of their homes and mal-treatment of parents. NCOs and officers told lies of NKA victories to lift spirits of soldiers.
