A. COMPOSITION OF NKAF PRIOR TO 25 JUNE 1950
(1) Organization:
The NKAF had one air division prior to 25 Jun 50.
(2) Unit Breakdown:
There were 2 air regiments.
1 Fighter Regt - No of Bns unknown.
1 Bomber Regt - No of Bns Unknown.
(3) Location:
P’YONGYANG (平壤); directly E of PANWOL-TO Island.
(4) Training:
Carried on in YONP'O (蓮浦); WONSAN (元山), P’YONGYANG (平壤), and HOERYONG (會寧).
Sr Col LEE Hwal (李浩) organized the PEOPLE’S AIR ASSOCIATION in SINUIJU (新義州) for ground training. Upon completion of these course, trainees were transferred to the NKAF for further training. NKAF had various types of training depending on future specialty of personnel.

Future pilots were trained by Russian officers.
HEARSAY - PW heard that large number of men who met the requirements were sent to RUSSIA for training as fighter pilots and bomber pilots. Some of these had about 6 years of actual flight training in USSR. They completed their training in KOREA in approximately 12 months.

YAK-18 trainers made of plyboard and ILZESHACHI fighters and light bombers were used,
(2) Personnel:
Only Korean personnel participated in actual combat.

D. RELATIONSHIP - NKAF - NKA
NKAF was on equal basis with NKA.

Under the General Staff. Consisted of wireless-radio communication and telephone communication section. (All codes are devised in Ministry of Communication.) Name of the Chief of Communication was unknown.
(2) Corps Reconnaissance Dept:
Details unknown.
(3) Commander of Strategy (Air):
Details unknown.
(4) Front-line Airdrome Depots:
Front-line Airdrome Depots were in following places:
P’YONGYANG (平壤)YONGGANG (龍江)
WONSAN (元山)P’YONGGANG (平康)
YONPO (蓮浦)SINMAK (新幕)
(5) Engineer Companies (Air):
Built air strips; repaired damaged runways, camouflaged planes, built bunkers and built dummy planes.

I. AIR FORCE SECURITY SECTION
(1) Composition:
Only known component: Code Section.
(2) No of Personnel:
There were 15 men in Security Section.
(3) Training:
Prior to the outbreak of the war, the students were picked from the Officer's Training Schools. Since the outbreak of war, students from colleges were picked and given training by the Dept of Interior. Upon completion of 2 weeks training, they were sent to various branches of service.
Security Sections were located on all NKAF Airfields.
Their mission was to code and decode messages.

PERSONALITIES:
CG - NKAF: Maj Gen WANG, Nyon (王蓮), Age about 45. Was a flight instructor in CCF, returned to NK in 1949 and replaced 3r Col LEE; Hwal (李浩).
C/S - NKAF: Sr Col LEE, Hwal (李浩), Age about 40
Security Section Chief - Capt KIM, Song Chun (金成春) Age about 23
Bn Political Officer - Capt PAK, Chae Chun (朴在春) Age about 25
Regimental CO - Maj KIM, Ki Ok (金基玉) (Pilot)
Pilot - Maj LEE, Tong Gyu (李洞奎)
Pilot - Lt LEE, Mun Sun (李文順), Probably killed in action,
Pilot - Lt LEE, Chae Son (李在孫)
The above 4 pilots received the highest decorations.
Chief of Communication Officer - Lt PAK, Pong Sae (朴鳳世)
Mechanic (Aircraft) - Jr Lt KIM, Nak Sun (金洛順).
