ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2315　20 November 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0254)　16 November 1950

PW was cooperative and talked freely. Prior to capture, he was confident of victory by the NKA but after his first experience in combat, resulting in almost complete annihilation of his unit, he decided to return to his home.

Reliability; fair.

10 Sep 47 - Inducted at PYONGYANG and sent to WONSAN.

Sep 47 Oct 48 - Instructor at Wonsan naval NCO School.

15 Jan 48 - Promoted to Capt.

Oct 48 - Departed WONSAN. Arrived NAJIN DONG.

3 Sep 49 - Arrived CHONGJIN. Instructor of Korean History at Navy School (776th Unit).

1 Nov 50 - Officers and cadets of Navy School integrated into the Navy Regt at BONG GANG.

12 Nov 50 - Entire regt departed BONG GANG by different routes.

14 Nov 50 - 3rd and 4th Cos and Bn Hqs arrived wooded area between CHOMAKSAN (卒朢山) and KUKTON (国洞) ahead of other units.

15 Nov 50 - Surrendered when attacked by UN troops. Believes only 20-30 men escaped.

a. Org: Navy Regt was organized 1 Nov 50 at BONG GANG, and consisted of 1st Bn (776th Unit), 2d Bn (938th Unit), and 3rd Bn (507th Unit).

776th Unit consisted of 4 Inf Cos of 3 Inf Plats and 1 Mortar Plat each.

b. Strength: Each Inf Plat: 30-45 men; each Mortar Plat: 30 men; Bn: approx 500 men.

c. Weapons : Each Co: 15 HMGs; Bn: 15 LMGs; 100 automatic rifles; each Mortar Plat: 4/82mm mortars; each mam rifle w/150 rds of ammo.

No other guns, weapons, tanks or trucks.

Believes the org, personnel and weapons of the other bns are the same.

12 Nov 50, Regt received orders to move S with the 2d Bn (938th Unit) on the left flank along the coastline, 3rd Bn (507th Unit) on the highway and the 1st Bn on the right flank. PW heard from fellow Staff Officers that the 570th Unit of the 41st Div (strength Rpprox 1,500) which was at HAEMOON (會文) would also move S on the right of 1st Rn.

12 Nov 50, obs 7-8 tanks at BONG GANG (2 light and 5-6 mediums). Believes they were part of the 41st Div.
