ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2314　20 November 1950

FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0253)　16 November 1950

He was cooperative and spoke freely. Reliability, good.

Oct 50 - Inducted at SONGJIN (城津) and assigned to HAMPUK Guard Regt, 3rd Bn.

27 Oct 50 - 3rd Bn departed SONGJIN on foot. Arrived in KILCHU on same day and joined the 2nd Bn in re treat to MUSAN (茂山).

30 Oct 50 - 2nd and 3rd Bns arrived at MUSAN. Observed soldiers of the 4th Bn.

4 Nov 50 - PW, 2nd Bn Comdr, and another Lt tried by courts martial for disseminating false information. Court members consisted of the regtl CO, C of S, intelligence officer, and about 9 other officers of the HAMPUK Guard Regt. All defendants were sentenced to death. That night PW heard from officer in charge of bn guard house that the 2nd Bn CO was shot by the Regtl CO. PW and Lt were to be shot on the morning of 5 Nov 50, but both escaped that night thru the cell window.

13 Nov 50 - Both surrendered to ROKS at TAESHIN RI.

a, Org: HAMPUK Guard Regt was composed of 1st (Hqs & Service), 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Bns.

b. Strength: 1st Bn-400; 2nd Bn-800; 3rd Bn- 360. (As of 30 Oct 50)

Note: Increase in 2nd Bn duG to transfer of men from 3rd Bn. Majority of men in 2nd Bn KIA or deserted at KILCHU.

a. 1st Bn, HAMPUK Guard Regt located at CHONGJIN (淸津). (30 Oct 50)

b. HAMPUK Guard Regtl Hqs located in tunnel between SUSONG DONG (輸城洞) and SUKMAK (石幕). (30 Oct 50)

c. Corps of Hqs located at HOERYONG (會寧). (30 Oct 50)

d. 1400, 2 Nov 50, supply officers were addressed by a div supply officer. PW presumes that there is a div at MUSAN.

e. Propaganda leaflets dropped by UN at SONGJIN, 20 Oct 50, were burned by members of Ministry of Interior.
