2. ASSESSMENT:
Information is considered fairly reliable. PW was cooperative but was unobservant and could not give detailed information.

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
1 Oct 50 Inducted into the 5th Bn of the 7th Regt at PYONGYANG. The 5th Bn was a newly organized artillery battalion assembled at #19 Primary School (策十九人民学校).
19 Oct 50 The units of the 5th Bn were deployed on the outskirts of PYONGYANG City to defend against the advancing UN Forces. Due to bombing raids and artillery bombardment various units of the NKA in PYONGYANG assembled at the “People’s Defense Ministry” (民族保衛省) and began retreating North. At this time there were approximately 500 troops in this group and only 2 squads of men from the 5th Bn in this group. The 2 squads of men from the 5th Bn marched with the group to a point 12 Km N of PYONGYANG. At this place (name unknown) the 2 squads of the 5th Bn became separated from the other troops.
20 Oct 50 6 men including PW deserted with the idea of returning to their homes. PW became separated from the other men on the way to his home.
29 Oct 50 PW was captured at MUN CHON (文川) with 5 or 6 other NKA troops by US Troops.

4. WEAPONS AND PERSONNEL:
Obs: 1 Oct 50 to 20 Oct 50.
The 7th Regt consisted of the 4th Inf Bn and the 5th Arty Bn. The 4th Inf Bn was stationed at the #24 Primary School (策二十四人民学校) in PYONGYANG.
On 19 Oct 50 the 5th Artillery Bn was issued 2 Russian rifles and 1 light machine gun to each squad of 8 men. The LMG team, which consisted of 2 men, was issued approximately 300 rounds of ammo and the other 6 men of the squad, including the 2 men with the rifles were each issued approximately 120 rounds of ammo. No other weapons were issued to the men of the 5th Arty Bn.
The 5th Arty Bn consisted of approximately 200 officers and men.

5. FOOD AND AMMUNITION SUPPLIES:
PYONGYANG:
The food supplies and ammo for the 5th Arty Bn were obtained from warehouses located approximately 4 km E of the main RR Station. The warehouse were simply tunnels at the foot of a mountain. Interior data on the tunnels was not known.

6. MORALE:
5th Arty Bn
OBS: 1 Oct 50 - 20 Oct 50
The morale of the 5th Arty Bn was low as the men were forcibly inducted into the NKA. PW saw some surrender leaflets dropped at PYONGYANG but has not read them. If they were caught reading these leaflets they were shot or at least beaten by their squad leaders.
