FIELD REPORT (521 - MISD - 0168)　30 October 1950

14 Aug 50 - Entered 1st Military Academy at PYONGYANG (平壤)

11 Oct 50 - Assigned to Academy Cadets’ Brig.

12 Oct 50 - Brig departed PYONGYANG on food.

13 Oct 50 - Arrived PYOGNAM DO, CHUNGHA (黃海道中和).

13 Oct 50 - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bns departed PYONGNAM DO, CHUNGHA. Other elements remained.

14 Oct 50 - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bns arrived HWANGHE DO, FUKKYO (黑橋). PW’s unit (1st Bn) constructed defense positions.

18 Oct 50 - Units annihilated at FUKKYO by ROK. PW deserted.

a. Organization: Academy Cadets’ Brig was composed of 6 inf bns with 3 cos each, 1/76MM Gun bn, 120MM Howitzer Bn, 3/82MM Howitzer Bn, 2/HMG Bns, 2 communication plats, 1 AA MG Plat, 1 Engr Bn, 1 Medical Plat, and 2 supply Cos.

b. Strength: Each inf bn consisted of 240 men, 120MM Howitzer Bn had 60 men, each 82MM Howitzer Bn had 60 men, each HMG Bn had 70 men, each communication plat had 10 men, AA MG Plat had 8 men, Engr Bn had 120 men, Medical Plat had 30 men, and each Supply Co had 20 men.

c. Weapons: Inf bn personnel equipped with Russian rifles and 150 rds of ammo. No heavy weapons or other equipment.

d. Composition of Personnel: Academy Cadets’ Brig was composed only of personnel from the 1st Military Academy.

Mission of the Brig was to defend PYONGYANG but, subsequent to the defeat by the UN Forces, it retreated toward the Manchurian border.
