25 Jul 50: PW and 1,000 conscriptees departed PYONGYANG on foot.
5 Aug 50: Arrived at SEOUL (서울), assigned to 10th RR Security Brig, 9th Bn, 4th Co as platoon leader. 9th Bn received 10 day basic training.

17 Sep 50: PW arrived at TONGTUCHON (東豆川) and assigned to 7th Bn, 10th RR Security Brig (Hq still in SEOUL).
5 Oct 50: Elements of ROK Army entered TONGTUCHON. 7th Bn retreated to YONCHON (漣川) and dispersed.

Original Organization & Strength:
10th RR Security Brig - 8,600 men (approx)
Recon Plat - 10 men; Comm Plat - 30 men; Supply Plat - 20 men; Band Plat - 50 men; 11 Security Bns - 770 men each.

Equipment (7th Security Bn) as of 5 Oct 50
4 HMG’s, 8 LMG’s; 40 Sub-MG’s; 20 field telephones; 4 trucks.

Unit Duties:
10th RR Security Brig was assigned the task of guarding all railroad tracks, stations, switches, etc., in North KOREA and occupied areas of South KOREA. Most important mission was to guard railroad bridges against sabotage. 7th Bn (PW’s Bn) was assigned the large area immediately N of SEOUL as far as TONGTUCHON.
Up to 1 Oct 50 the 7th Bn somehow managed to keep the railroads in running condition, despite the UN air-raids on tracks, stations, and locomotives. Damage to tracks was repaired, and the lines were kep clear. Field telephones were installed at every small RR station, so track conditions could be reported to a maintainance crew.

Morale & Propaganda:
Like the majority of his fellow soldiers, PW’s morale was low because he knew that NK Army was losing the war.
Several UN propaganda leaflets were observed by PW in YONCHON around mid Oct 50. They influenced him to surrender voluntarily.

FOREIGN ELEMENTS:
PW observed numerous Russian military advisors attached to units in PYONGYANG on 20 Jul 50.

For the Commanding Officer:

GERARD
