2. ASSESSMENT:
PW with 165 others from his unit voluntarily surrendered to members of the Young Men’s Association (Anti-Communist) vicinity PYUNGYUL-MYON. Confined in a warehouse until formally turned over to the elements of the 5th RCT on 211800 Oct 50. OW was employed as a clerk by the Democratic Young Men’s Association (Communist) Headquarters located at HUNGYONG-NAMDO, KUPSUN-GUN, KUPSUN-MYON from Aug 46 to Feb 50. He was in good physical condition at the time of interrogation and very cooperative. Willingly divulged information. Recommended for further interrogation at higher headquarters. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology: PW was appointed a Cultural instructor of the 4th Field Training Bn, located at CHAERYONG-GUN, HASONG-MYON, YONGHO-RI (YC 4533) on 28 March 50. Subjects taught were: The NK Constitution, The Objective of the NK Army and Government, and Current Affairs. (Remarks: Similar to our TI & E Section). Appointed to rank of Sr Lt on 7 Jul 50. Promoted to rank of Captain and appointed Battalion Cultural Officer of the 4th Field Training Bn. Held this position prior to his capture.

b. PW’s Unit or Group: The 4th Training Bn was organized in early spring of 1949, at CHAERYONG-GUN, HASONG-MYON Town Hall. The 4th Training Bn was composed of a cadre of approximately 242 enlisted men and 78 officers (13 training companies). The 4th Bn was known as training center for newly inducted persons. PW stated that during period of 28 March 1950 to 20 Sept 1950 a total of approximately 17,000 men were trained. 3 cycles for this period. Each cycle lasted 40 days. From 20 Sep 50 to time of disbandment of his unit each cycle was trained for approximately 4 days. After a conference of the Staff Section, the 4th Training Bn was formally disbanded on 13 Oct 50.
National Headquarters of the National Guard located in PYONGYANG. The commander in chief was YUN JONG MOX (rank unk), age 50. Originally the National Guard Unit was composed of 6 battalions. One (1) battalion located in each province. When current conflict started the battalions were increased. Number unknown.

4. GENERAL:
a. US POS’s: PW heard that US POW’s were confined at SARIWON and PYONGYANG.

c. Knowledge of High Ranking Officers and Government Officials:
PW heard that KANG KUN, General Chief of Staff, North Korean Army, was killed on or about 18 Sep 50. PW also heard that the Minister of Department of Defense was killed personally by KIM IL SONG, Premier of North Korea.

Trousers (officers): 1/4˶ red stripe running vertically from waist to cuff along outside seam of trouser leg. Enlisted men no strip.
Material: Lightweight-cotton.
Color: OD
Jacket: Collar similar to dress shirt. 1/4˶ red stripe encircle both sleeves about 3˶ above cuff. Enlisted men- open collar without stripes. Cap resembles US Army fatigue cap, with red stripe piping encircling top of cap. Red Star insignia over the visor.
Shoe: Officer and EM - canvas uppers with rubber soles.
