2. ASSESSMENT:
PW is of average intelligence but due to short period of service, information was limited but considered reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
14 Jul 50: Conscripted at PYONGYANG and assigned to the 1st Bn of the Defense Ministry & Security unit. Received training for 10 days. Assigned to security duty at PYONGYANG.
11 Oct 50: 1st Bn of the Security Unit was attached to 103 Regt at YONGPO-RI,
15 Oct 50: The 1st Bn was detached from the 103 Regt and assigned as the 1st Bn of the 14th Regt, 1st Div, 3rd Army Corps.
16 Oct 50: Assigned to the supply plat of the 1st Bn, 14th Regt as a Food Supply Officer and commissioned a Jr Lt.
17 Oct 50: PW started retreating from YANGDOK. Believes the 14th Regt & 1st Div Hq retreated to PYONGYANG.
19 Oct 50: Surrendered at SONGCHON.

Unit Organization & Strength:
Original Organization & Strength:
1st Bn, 14th Regt, 1st Div (700 men in Bn)
1st Bn organization - 3 Inf Cos; 1 HMG Co; 1 Trans plat; 1 Anti-tank plat, 3 Sections directly under Bn - Medical Section, Supply Section and a Communication Section.

Equipment (Bn):
4 HMG’s; 4 LMG’s and 72 submachine guns.

Unit History:
The 1st Bn of the 14th Regt, 1st Div, formerly with the Defense Ministry Security Unit was assigned to the 103 Regt and then to the 14th Regt, 1st Div. Organization & Strength of the 1st Bn was always the same.

Personalities:
1st Bn CO: HAN, Yon Ik, Maj

Morale & Propaganda:
Morale of unit low because most of the men were anti-communist and were forced into service. Saw propaganda leaflets and wanted to surrender but did not have the opportunity sooner.
