ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2120　28 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD - 0151)　25 October 1950

PW talked freely and was of average intelligence. Information considered reliable.

2 Jul 50: Conscripted at PYONGYANG and sent to Officers Training School for 25 days.

28 Jul 50: Commissioned Jr Lt and assigned to the Officers Training School as a Plat Ldr.

9 Oct 50: PW was assigned to the PYONGYANG Defense Brig as Plat Ldr. of Motar Co, 1st Mortar Co, 1st Bn Pyongyang Defense Brig.

10 Oct 50: Went to HUKKYO-RI and dug trenches and fox holes.

18 Oct 50: PW deserted while the unit held defensive positions at HUKKYO-RI and surrendered.

Original Organization & Strength:

Pyongyang Defense Brigade - 5,000 men.

3 Inf Bns (Bn consisted of 3 Inf Co, 1 HMG Co & 1-82 mm mortar Co. 1-120 mm mortar Bn, 1-76 mm arty Bn and 1 tank Co directly under Brigade.

Actual Battle Organization & Strength:

Same as above.

2 x 82 mm mortar 200 rds, 10 submachine guns, 300 rifles 15 - 20 rds per man. 7 to 8 x 76 mm Arty, 8 x 120 mm mortars and 5 tanks in Brig.

Unit Duties: Were to defend PYONGYANG.

10 Oct 50: The Pyongyang Defense Unit started organizing at HUKKYO-RI.

17 Oct 50: Pyongyang Defense Brigade established defensive positions at HUKKYORI. The 120 mm mortar Bn was sent to protect the road between SANGWON & PYONGYANG.

18 Oct 50: Attacked by UN forces and last seen retreating north.

Defense Brig CO - CHON, UN Pyo, rank unknown.

1st Bn CO - LEE, Yon Son, Maj.

Observed 5-6 Russian Officers including a Lt Col & Maj at PYONGYANG Officers Training School as late as 5 Oct 50.
