PW was cooperative. Information considered fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
15 Jul 50: Conscripted at CHONGJIN (淸津).
25 Jul 50: Arrived at PYONGYANG, attended Officers Training School at PYONGYANG for 20 days. Commissioned Jr Lt on graduation.
15 Aug 50: Arrived at CHINNAMPO (鎭南浦), assigned to 1st Co, Arty Bn, 99th Regt.
22 Aug 50: Officers of the Arty Bn were transferred to PYONGYANG.
1 Sep 50: Arrived at PYONGYANG; with 12 officers.
3 Sep 50: 12 officers and PW arrived at SONGCHON (肅川). On 17 Sep 50, the 19th Div was activated and PW was assigned to 5th Co, 2nd Bn, 56th Regt, 19th Div.
? Sep 50: 56th Regt of the 19th div arrived at MULGAE-RI (물개리). When reports came that UN forces were advancing over the 38th the 56th Regt retreated to SINMAK, then to SARIWON.
16 Oct 50: PW departed SINMAK and surrendered to UN forces, 2km S of SINMAK.

Unit Organization and Strength:
Original Organization and Strength:
19th Div was composed of three Inf Regts and one Arty Regt. A Leading Co and a Transportation Co were directly attached to 19th Div Hq.
The Regts were composed of three Bns and three Cos were in each Bn. PW estimated the strength of the 56th Regt to be approx 600.

Equipment: 2nd Bn, 56th Arty Regt as of 3 Sep 50:
8 x 76mm Arty pieces; 4 x 122m Mortars; 2x LMG’s; 40 3MG’s; and 8 trucks - all Russian.

Personalities:
Chief of Staff 56th Regt, 19th Div - PA, Wal Te, Major.
Co, 2nd Bn, 56th Regt - LEE, Dok Ku, Maj.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale of the unit was low because men were forced into the service.
