2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and in good health. The information obtained seemed to be fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
5 Aug 50 - PW was drafted into the NKA in SARIWON (沙里院) and was immediately assigned to the 78th Inf Regt, 2nd Bn, 2nd Co and received 20 days basic training as a rifleman.
24 Sep 50 - PW’s Bn and two other Bns arrived at SUSAK and took up defensive positions.
25 Sep 50 - PW and 2nd Co marched to a position 6 km N of SUSAK and encountered enemy aerial and artillery bombardment. The soldiers fled. PW fled to KUMCH’ON (金川).
1 Oct 50 - Arrived at KUMCH’ON. Assigned the task of boiling rice and hauling it to soldiers of the 635 unit.
11 Oct 50 - PW deserted the 635 unit in KUMCH’ON after reading a UN propaganda leaflet.
12 Oct 50 - PW fled to a point 12 km NW of KAESONG (開城) where he surrendered to the US Forces.

Unit Organization and Strength:
The 78th Regt was composed of the following:
Seven (7) battalions to the Regt; three (3) Cos to each Bn; three (3) Plats to each Co.
PW did not know whether the seven (7) Bn’s of the 78th Regt were all Inf Bn’s or not. Total strength of Regt, unknown.

Morale and Propaganda:
Morale in the PW’s unit was low due to lack of experience. Rations and supplies were lacking, The majority of the soldiers resented being forcibly drafted into the NKA.
UN aircraft dropped numerous propaganda leaflets in the PW’s vicinity. The leaflets influenced many soldiers to desert the NKA and surrender to the UN Forces.
