ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2068　26 October 1950

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS FWD - 0119)　22 October 1950

PW of average intelligence. Information fairly reliable.

10 Aug 50: Conscripted and sent to Officers School at PYONGYANG for 17 days.

28 Aug 50: Assigned to 27 Brig as plat ldr in supply Co at KUMCHON.

18 Sop 50: Arrived at IL SAN.

20 Sop 50: Retreated to MUNSAN & established defensive position for one week.

2 Oct 50 : Arrived at KUMCHON and established defensive position. Attacked by UN Forces so unit was ordered to retreat to SIBYON-RI.

12 Oct 50: While retreating to SIBYON-RI, was captured with 20 other men.

The 27th Brigade was made up of 8 Bns.

4 HMG Bns equipped with 82 mm mortar, 45 mm arty, HMG’s, LMG’s, submachine guns & rifles.

One Ind Rifle Bn - Equipment same as above.

One 120 mm mortar Bn not fully organized - Equipped with sub-machine guns & rifles. 30% of men were armed. No mortars or HMG’s seen.

One Tank Bn still in process of being organized. Equipped with sub-machine guns only. Had 2,520 rds of ammo.

One 76 mm Arty Bn in process of being organized. 70% organized. Equipped with (2) 76 mm Arty pieces, sub-machine guns & rifles,

8 trucks, 3 jeeps (2) 76 mm Arty pieces, sub-machine guns & rifles. Unit believed to have been well equipped with small arms ammo.

15 Aug 50: The 27th Brig was organized at KUMCHON. It is believed that the unit was not fully organized when committed at IL SAN.

2 Oct 50: Unit is believed to have been enveloped by UN forces at KUMCHON after retreating from IL SON to MUNSAN then to KUNCHON.

107 Interior Defense Regt was believed to have been alongside the 27th Brig at KUMCHON.

Bn Cultural Officer: KIM, Ton Su, Sr Lt.

Morale was low due to lack of equipment and constant attack by air forces. Did see propaganda leaflets which encouraged most men to surrender.

Obsorved 2 Russian Officers wearing civilian clothes on 2 Oct 50 at 27th Brig Hg located at KUMCHON City.
